My question, would getting insurance be a substitute over DJI's warranty ? I know there is also DJI refresh as well.

I understand that if you buy a DJI product from a seller that is not an authorized DJI dealer your product will not be covered under warranty. (talking about new/sealed, not used )

FWIW, my $39 State Farm personal article protection policy covers repair and/or replacement costs for damage, loss, and theft, for both my Mavic Pro Platinum and DJI Goggles, with $100 deductible.

As such, I did not purchase DJI Refresh, which does not cover loss or theft, only damage.

Many threads on this forum about this topic, search "State Farm" or "insurance".

I just read the 8 page one here on this forum, the 6 page thread over on DJI's forum about SF, and only two out of all those replies in both made mention about SF covering stuff that would be normally covered under the warranty .

I think it is just better that I contact my local SF agent and make an inquiry about the coverage and what all I get for my $5 a month as he did not go into detail the first time I had contact with him.

Perhaps I'm not quite following your question, apologies if so. Are you asking whether a non-damaged, yet *defective* Mavic could have its repair costs covered by a personal article protection policy such as State Farm's?

That's an interesting question, though it only really matters for the duration of the original DJI warranty, I suppose, and warranted defects are likely to be discovered pretty early on.

The policy offered by SF covers pretty much any accidental loss. It would not cover a defect in the drone. However, perhaps it had a defect that caused it to "crash". The damage from the crash would be covered. The Inland Marine policy (Personal Article Policy from SF) covers just about any accidental loss. It would have certain exclusions such as damage from war, nuclear events, etc. but those are very limited.

I am simply trying to decide if I want to save a little bit of cash and buy a brand new one from none authorized dealer and not have any warranty. I have seen a few a people say that their policy with SF does cover defects or issues that a warranty would typically cover.

Just trying to figure things out before I buy and end up **** creek without a paddle .

As i have known warranty is for product factory defects.

FWIW, I saved $$$ buying the current Costco $1299 DJI Mavic Pro Platinum + DJI Goggles bundle. Also includes double manufacturer warranty, and 90-day returns/exchanges.

Costco extends the manufacturer's warranty on Televisions, Tuner-Free Displays, Projectors, Computers* and Major Appliances† to 2 years from the date of purchase. See the manufacturer's warranty for specific coverage terms.

Hi Keith, Did you have to insure any other items like home ,car, boat etc? I know I called our SF and I had to switch over all my other insurance with them.

Hi Waxman, I already had SF insurance for those things, but I think it's not a requirement to purchase a PAP. My agent emphasized that the PAP is completely independent from all our other policies. I believe I've read on this forum that others have been able to just purchase the PAP. Now, perhaps my $39 annual premium is lower because I'm already a multi-policy holder, seems like $60 is what most others report here.

Thanks tcope. Interesting to see cameras not in the 2-year warranty list, although they are in the "free technical support" list at Costco Concierge Services | Costco. Costco classifies the Mavic as an "aerial camera".

So now, I'm not 100% sure this bundle is covered by the 2-year extended warranty, though it's not that important to me, pretty sure I'd have already discovered covered defects within the DJI one year warranty, and likely even the Costco 90-day return window. In fact, I already took advantage of the 90-day return in June, when I exchanged my bundle within 3 weeks due to failing/overheating remote controller.
