I'm planning to buy a cheap android phones to use exclusively for drone control so that i don't have to use my A9. The question is, will the low processing power of the cheap phone will affect the drone?

Yes it might affect it, if you do the editing on it, however the cheap phone requires Android 6.0 on 64 bit (minimum) and 3-4 gb of RAM so you can get DJI Fly App installed and working. How cheap can you get one of those with these specs?

Not specific to the MM, but my experience was the slower/older phone did impact Go4 performance in a bad way. (Moto G3)

The app would be unresponsive, video was stuttering, control inputs (via phone) were very slow and unresponsive. Once I changed to a newer/faster phone all problems disappeared.

Not sure but I would guess the same would happen with the Fly app.

You could still look at an inexpensive phone, the key thing to look for is adequate RAM I would aim for 4GB.
You could get by with 2GB if you already had an old one lying about.

2GB might not be enough for Fly to allow install.

DJI Fly is poorly optimized, with my Samsung A7 (2018) the phone gets very hot. and with the DJI GO 4 or heated the phone, my recommendation if in your hands is a high-end phone keep it, I do not think that DJI only supports 4 models just ...
