The Guge Kingdom was an ancient Tibetan kingdom located in present day Zanda County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. It flourished from the 10th century until its sudden and mysterious disappearance in the 17th century. Guge is known for its impressive ruins, including the former capital, Tsaparang, which features a dramatic cliff side fortress. The kingdom played a significant role in the spread of Buddhism in Tibet and was a major trade center.
