I did a mapping job today, total number of images was 1600
What my M2P did was split the images between two folders, 1-999 in folder 1 and 1-600 in the second
Same numbers
If I rename them it won’t work, as it sees duplicates
How can I get consecutive numbers for the images?
How can I stop this from happening again?
I used 260 GB ultra SD cards
I have done jobs like this before without any problem
Any help will be gratefully appreciated

DJI had file index numbers that went to 9999 for the Phantom 2.
Since 2015 when the Phantom 3 came out, their cameras have only gone to 999.
It's stupid and unnecessary, but that's just one of DJI's peculiarities that users have to put up with.

You would have to rename the images in the second folder 1001 to 1600.
Search for a program to do batch renumbering.

Not with a DJI drone.

For renaming your current images to give them consecutive numbers, I can sketch out a general approach: Download a file renaming utility, create a rule for it to run, and let it rename your files.

This is pretty easy, but expect to screw it up a few times until you get the renaming rule defined properly. So you'll want to work on a copy of your file folders, which you can delete and replace until you like the results. The rule you define will involve something like "First n characters of current name+consecutive integer starting with 1000". A decent utility will be self explanatory.

It's been years since I've done this, so I don't recall the exact recipe. I do recall that it was quick enough to work out that I never saw a need to write down a method.

I'm not certain what utilities I've used. Two I see in my software archive are: Name It Your Way (NIYoW) and AF5 File Renamer. I suspect I liked one or both of them.

Not with a DJI drone.
Thanks very much for that, this is exactly what I'm looking for

one more question :)
Do you know of one that will change the numbers sequentially?

Same question but different angle. I have a backup drone and the numbering is getting confusing.

Wish there was a way to assign a range of numbers to each drone.

Sounds like I will have to do it manually.

Create folders for each drone, when downloading download into the appropriate folder.
If you wish to subsequently mix them then, using a renamer or script, add drone-name to the name of each photo or video, then move them to common folder.

Best way I have found is to always format your card first and wipe it clean. For thimelapses that I do that run over 99999 and then flip to a new folder starting at 00001, I just process each segment individually, and process them in Adobe Premiere Pro (video) consecutively, and also can Nest all of the sequences. I just did a 1265 RAW images timelapse this way. It took me three folders.
