Laser Etching FAA#

FWIW, I have a Graphtec plotter/cutter and do a fair amount of vinyl work. I spent the time to make skins for my MP1 and batt's which worked fine. But, when I cut out small text to go over the first layer of vinyl so I'd have ID info on the batteries, I found that the small pieces of vinyl get rubbed off with use. Just an FYI thing...

Great, now I want to come up with something cooler. All I did was use the office label maker and stick basic labels for registration and cellphone numbers in the bottom of my battery compartment. I'm also starting to think a random guy that finds it in his backyard might not think to remove the battery to find a contact number.

That's cool too. I thought about a vinyl cut sticker, but I wanted something more indelible. You can do a lot with the Cricut!

I probably have used it to make window decals and labels more than my wife has used it for anything. !

I have found it has a lot to do with the quality of vinyl you use. Some are really sticky and durable.
If for those big machines that use a roll of continuous feed, there is a lot of cheap junk material out there. I know someone that has a similar commercial unit and will only buy the cheapest stuff he can find.
Unless you are forcing the mavic in and out of a tight foam cocoon all the time, nothing much to rub anything off.

I agree, the whole "under the battery" thing is not the greatest Idea. Not many finders would think to even look there. If my wife, (for instance) was walking down a path, and saw a Mavic laying in the path, she would walk around it most likely, or move it out of the path. If she saw an obvious phone a number, I think she would take note of that.
Make it obvious is my thought. There are a LOT of people that would just leave it where it laid because it is no interest to them.

Good-quality vinyl is a must for most uses and I only buy Oracal which, AFAIK, is pretty good stuff. As for a decal coming off, you may be more gentle and careful than I when you stow and unstow your aircraft but just the word "REWARD" and a phone number on a MP1 battery in 21pt type, was too small for adequate adhesion and they definitely rubbed off.

i have oracal sheet I use. They can be pretty fine in detail and hold up well.
I made a fine line sticker for my daughters jeep window. exposed to the elements outdoors 24/7 for a year it still looks like new. after several ice scrapings and automatic car washes over that time.
You must really rub the Mavic a LOT! :D

AC: I too have made many, many decals for vehicle windows and to my knowledge, none of them have ever come off either. But you have to think about things a bit amigo...the size of the type you would use on an automotive window has to be large enough to be seen from some distance. In my experience, that's a minimum of 1" high or about 100 point type. I was using 20-point type on the battery which makes those letters less than a quarter inch in height so you can imagine how thin the strokes were and thus, not enough adhesive to keep them in place when touched by human hands or drone case padding. If you feel like torture, try it sometime and if you can get beyond the weeding of the vinyl, put the decal on one of your batteries and give it a week or two, you'll see what I'm talking about.
