Lens filter has come off camera - vital to stick back on or not?

Hi all.

The below popped off my camera today - how vital is it that this be glued / attached back on, please? I does not seem to want to clip back on?

YES it keeps the dust outside....just do it carefully and dont break it.

Should just be a UV haze filter that protects the actual lens from dust and debris and scratches. Glue it back on carefully, after removing any left over glue from the back of the filter, so you can get a better seal.

It's just the equivalent of a lens hood, there's no glass in either that one or the mini 3 pro version. Without it you will get more lens flare. Before you gum things up with blobs of glue: get a magnifying glass and check out the four locking tangs around the actual lens to see if you've managed to snap one off. If they're still intact: try buying a single UV filter (Freewell or K&F Concepts).

NO GLUE. NO SNAP-ON.
It's an open lens hood, not a filter, as @Felix le Chat pointed out. It doesn't just snap on by pressing it against the gimbal. You have to rotate it a few degrees to remove or install it. There are several good Youtube videos that show the process.

If you have managed to bugger up the original by damaging the locking tang(s): you can still avoid a glue-fest by buying a new front housing (link below).

Some types of glue give off heavy fumes and with plastic "glass" (set into the front of the housing): the last thing you need is to end up with solvent or super glue fogging.

Avoid using UV lenses. They don't do anything on Digital Cameras. There is a built in UV/IR cut filter over the sensor. If you want a lens protector, get an optically clear lens. Sellers have been deluding people for years now about UV filters. I actually make my own full spectrum cameras by removing the internal UV/IR cut filter. Even done it on a Mavic 2 Pro. Sadly due to the DJI policy of having to have the camera calibrated by secret software, it is no longer possible.

That being said, there is an optically clear glass that is glued to the frame surrounding the Mini 4 and 3 Pro's camera, not the removable one. It can be damaged in an incident, but then your gimbal is most likely destroyed in the process.
