I gave it a Goog and found this....

The scene was filmed on location in San Francisco using actual buildings and streets for maximum authenticity. In particular, the Mark Hopkins Hotel standing atop Nob Hill provided the setting, and it is one of San Francisco's most iconic landmarks.

Perhaps. However, shadows do add some drama to a photo. Also, I didn't have any choice on that trip. Oh, and is was nice and quiet that early; later may have been too busy.
