Not sure if I post "looking for" here or not. Let me know if not and I can move. I'm tired of hooking my phone up to the phone based controller and would love to just pull out the single item to control my ORIGINAL Mavic Pro. Does anyone have one for sale, or know a good place to look for one? thanks

A "smart controller" for the gen #1 Mavic Pro? No such animal. That type of integrated controller only started with the Mavic 2 series (RM500) which is not compatible with the original Mavic Pro.

I don't know if it is smart or not, just wanted a controller with the integrated screen so I don't have to use my phone. If that doesn't exist, blah! :(

Here is how you connect your DJI Mavic Pro to the White Goggles:

To connect your DJI Mavic Pro to the DJI Goggles (white), you'll need to ensure both the aircraft and remote controller are powered on and linked, then power on the goggles and initiate the linking process via the goggles' quick linking option or the link button. Once the goggles indicate they are ready to link (solid red), press the link button on the Mavic Pro. The goggles will then turn solid green once the connection is established.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  1. Ensure the aircraft and remote controller are powered on and linked: This means the remote controller is already connected to the Mavic Pro.
  2. Power on the DJI Goggles:
  3. Initiate linking on the Goggles:
    • Option 1 (Quick Linking): Navigate to "Tools > Settings > Linking Settings" in the Goggles, select "Quick Linking", and confirm.
    • Option 2 (Link Button): Press the link button on the Goggles.
  4. Initiate linking on the Mavic Pro: Press the link button on the Mavic Pro itself.
  5. Wait for connection: The Goggles should show a solid green light once linked to the Mavic Pro.
Important Notes:
  • Firmware Updates:
Ensure all devices (aircraft, remote controller, and goggles) are updated to the latest firmware for optimal compatibility and performance.

  • Troubleshooting:
If you encounter issues, double-check the connection between the remote controller and the Mavic Pro. You may need to re-pair them first before linking the Goggles.

  • Alternative Linking Methods:
Some users have found success using a mini-HDMI cable to connect the remote controller to the Goggles directly.

I appreciate that info, but that seems to add yet another piece of hardware to the mix. I want to reduce the hardware - a RC and the craft only. But apparently there is no RC with screen version for the original Mavic Pro. sadness.

Hi Ericole,

All DJI drones have their own specific compatibility with controllers and apps — you can’t just mix and match. In particular, the Mavic Pro 1 is not compatible with any of the controllers from newer models.

If your goal is to avoid using your phone (for example, to save its battery), I recommend getting a separate device (a phone or tablet) to use exclusively for flying.

But, to answer your question, no phone means you won’t be able to use the DJI GO 4 app, but you can still fly the drone without any device (no phone, no app) other than the original RC.
You’ll just need to rely on the basic telemetry data shown on the RC’s built-in monochrome screen (distance, speed, battery %, etc.). Even more: in that scenario you won’t be able to see the live camera feed, although you can still capture photos and videos directly to the memory card.

Cheers,

My goal was not to save the phone battery (I have old phones I can use), but to avoid having 3 pieces of hardware to keep charged and connected to fly. It's a pain.

But thanks for the info that I can fly it without a phone - that's interesting. But without that visual feedback from the drone camera it would be pretty hard to shoot the pics and videos I'd want.

I guess I'm just hosed with my original Mavic Pro to do what I want. bummer.
