Low Chopper

I had a close call with a sea plane around Sydney Olympic park the other week. I was flying back from the brick pit to the grass area behind the p6 parking, when a sea plane came swooping low from the east.

I would say it was possibly around 400ft.

Made sure the magic dropped quicksmart !!!

Choppers seem to push the limits. I was flying a Cessna out of Archerfield on the published procedural track and altitude. I heard a chopper call in on the radio saying he was inbound on the right track and altitude, BUT he wasn’t. One of the scariest things looking for another aircraft and they appear ‘not where they are supposed to be’. I’ve also had them flying circuits in wrong pattern. After just finishing my RePL now, the instructor said the rules were piloted aircraft can’t go <500ft AGL unless landing, or emergency work that requires it.

A chopper at 300AGL, 80kts and over houses isn’t landing in my view.
