I would like to hear from the community what LUTs people are using. I've seen the packages from ground control and polar pro, but to me they seem ridiculously overpriced and I wonder if there is really such a thing as an aerial drone LUT. Seems like marketing to me, but maybe someone with experience could comment. Would a regular package of LUTs work just as well at a much lower price?

I'm still too new to video editing to know enough about LUT's... much less spend any funds on some. Since I started learning, and practicing, I've started using the free LUT that Ground Control offers specifically for the Mavic filming in D-Log. Just tried it for the first time this evening. Still had to tweak it ever so slightly after adding the LUT, but I'm liking it so far.

I dont use LUTs. I either use a color profile for quick flights from within the firmware itself (Blue is my fav right now) or I color correct or grade manually. I have never been happy with results from LUTs, not in the same way as when I do the grading myself.

There are plenty of threads explaining all the different software. Choose one and stick with it, that will be the best you can use for you.

I use the SpectrumGrades LUTs and they are designed for the Mavic D-log profile. Also LUTs do a lot more to the footage such as balance out the dynamic range and color shifting. So depending on the look you want, the LUTs will bring out a darker more blue sky or even get rid of of horrible magenta in the blues etc. You can have different greens for the grass. I'm a big fan of them and helps a lot for anyone who isn't deep into grading and wants that extra edge make sure you choose a reputable LUT manufacturer because they can be vastly different in quality...

How many LUTs did you get with SpectrumGrades? There is very limited information on their website. I guess what my question is getting at is are these companies really making these LUTs specifically for the Mavic and DLog? Do I need to go get "special" LUTs for my GoPro and FCP?

Yeah LUTs are usually designed for specific cameras however the spectrumgrades works really well and seems like people are really loving them at being the most premium LUTs on the market. There are about 26 LUTs in the combo pack. The one pack is more various creative film styles and the other a modern stylish clean look. I'm sure with some extra tweaking the LUTs will work with the GoPro footage and will work in fcpx. Will be cool to see your results if you do get them

I use them all. Or not. If you just want to make nice films, use the standard settings, maybe Cinelike.
If you go into the post production process, then use a D-Log. But even then you don't need LUT's. If you're handy with color correction, you can do it yourself. Very easy

i feel like i know nothing i am still trying to learn how to cut and trim them lol. i have a macbook pro on its way and will probably have a go with FCP and try to keep and learn one programme.

I hear LUT's and had a look on you tube and was lost in 5 minutes. :(

FCPX is by far the best tool, except with LUT's. You need a LUT loader. There are a bunch of free Apps for that.
I suggest to learn first how to edit and then start grading. Because that is a bit tricky.
I start grading months after I could edit some cool clips. Send me a PM if you need any help with FCPX.
I've just started with Motion 5 myself

Good quality LUTs do far more than simple contrast and saturation adjustments. They correct the color issues and do many other color space warping etc. they also give unique look styles that are really hard to achieve unless someone is a grading colorist specialist

Well I can't comment on how to load them in photoshop, but I would do a search on YouTube. I have continued to do my research on if you really need a specialized LUT for a Mavic, and from what I gather yes. Seems like they are built for each specific camera, or at least that's what they are saying they are doing.

Yeah agreed. The SpectrumGrades LUTs are the best on the market. They really have improved the footage a lot. Definitely get those [emoji108]

I also a, confused.
Downloaded a few Luts things but can't fathom how to get them into resolve Photoshop or Lightroom.
Check YouTube, there are tons of videos how to use LUT's in Photoshop. Make an automation and you do a bunch of photos at once. Handy tool

Maybe you have a different version of FCPX but mine has no build in LUT loader. I have three (FX Plugin, Coremelt and Color Finale) but again...... no native loader. My FCPX version is 10.3.4

I've been using the free groundcontrol lut.. it's for d-log. .I think the settings are like -1, -3, -3.. it seems to work fairly well, with some tweaking afterwards of course..
