Yep I understand what you are saying and I understand why that would be the thought but it simply isn't true IMO. We already know why the drone changes from CE to FCC and vice versa and we all already know the software is the same for all DJI drones with rare exceptions. If you can point to where you read this, might be helpful. There's no value in permanently hardcoding a drone by locking it into a specific region especially when the serial number can sorta serve the same benefit. Like almost all other electronic devices, the serial number should be the key to the software update.Well, I was researching it and apparently when you first fire up your drone, it puts a region code in the drone that supposedly can't be changed making it a US or let's say a South Korean drone. The reason why that is important is because South Korea does not allow thesignal strength or the distance so the only way a firmware update wouldn't change that is if there was a hard country code in it telling DJI that it was not allowed to push a firmware update that could give the drone more capability than legal in that country. So, having a Canadian version of the drones software would protect me if the US made DJI push a firmware update that would debilitate my drone. Hopefully, I made that a little clearer as I know this is a complicated issue and I am not a great writer.
Drones are activated over wifi and with VPNs, why wouldn't everyone simply activate their drone in the US for FCC? I agree there are settings in the drone like language and geo-fence and GPS usage, etc that are impacted by your geographical location and get set upon activation but again, I see no value in making it permanent and incapable of switching. DJI warranties and Care Refresh are region specific and to me, it wouldn't make sense if those were impacted by where you activate the drone as opposed to where you purchased the drone (as DJI says). First thought comes to mind is go to a foreign country, buy your drones and cameras, bring them home to the US and activate them here for US warranty and US Care.
