Marco Polo attachment suggestions

My personal opinion is Marco Polo applications for the modern drone world are outdated and obsolete (especially on price) considering there are other alternatives that appear to be just as effective and more compatible; no Care in US notwithstanding. Have you thought about something more practical?

If you insist on using one you may be able to reach out to Ryan to see what is available for your model: DJI Mavic Pro, Mavic 2, 3 and 4 Marco Polo Ultralight Transceiver Tracker 3D Printed Mount

Thanks for that link. I read the thread and neither the Tile nor Airtag seemed like they would work for me. I will be out in the Highlands of Iceland.
Ok no problem. Hope you find what you are looking for; sounds like a wonderful trip. In the meantime, in case you haven't heard, you might be interested in this: Dronetag RIDER

Has anyone tried attaching the Marco Polo Advanced Edition to the M4P? I've emailed them and am waiting for a response, but I can't see a good spot that works with their attachment options.

This one ↑ is really good. It goes on the back left arm. And I can close the arms of the drone with it on. This is for the ultralight Marco Polo. I bet if you email the site he will make a similar mount for the bigger Marco Polo Advanced tracker. I just ordered the advanced so I probably will see if they can make me 1.
He also custom made a prop box for me and listed it on his site. They both work great! I also have a tracker mount from him for my M1P.

So you can bend the antenna? I ask because they say reception is best when it is more vertical than horizontal.

That looks great but VERY expensive and also with a monthly subscription for LTE.
Subscription is optional for the advanced services but you are right, everything is pretty expensive. Looks like it is pretty powerful though, the ability to mount your device and then remote receive the data:

It also won’t help you find a crashed drone with unarmed motors, where RID is no longer being transmitted. However, it might help locate other drone owners nearby to assist in the search and recovery though, but only if they are within 5km, unless they have the same device, realized your drone didn't make it back, and beat you to the location of the crash!

Happened to my uncle flying his private plane in remote Alaska back in 1978. His plane was long overdue, presumed crashed on a mountainside in a storm. By the time it was located 3 days later, mountain men had found it first, and stripped out all the avionics and everything else of value, leaving only the carcasses behind.

Yes you can **gently** bend the antenna quite a bit.
I think yes, the tag probably does work better if sticking straight up but it also worked for me not sticking straight up.

I have tested the Ultralight by just sticking the tag (on the drone) in some brush and found it with the receiver just fine without the antenna being straight up. I have not had to find my drone with it yet in a real scenario. You definitely should practice with the tag & receiver first before you need to find an actual crashed drone. But yes it works. Within like 20ft it was pretty accurate. After I was 20ft away I had to find it with my eyes. Not having the antenna straight up played no role in me being able to find the tag.

I mean think about it, even if you stick the antenna straight up attached to the drone, if it falls it probably won't fall with the antenna oriented up anyways. It's just chance. Sticking it straight up would only be for when your flying and you don't need to find it then.

The tag stays charged for like 2 weeks. I just turn the tag on & off everytime I fly & put it away and I do not have to charge it very often. You also want to keep a few days at minimum of charge on it in case you lose the drone.

So I imagine if you got the Advanced waterproof version it should also work as well as the ultralight. If the antenna being able to bend is your issue. Keep in mind that if you were to lose the drone, the way the tags antenna will be oriented on the ground will be totally by chance the way it fell. Although I do not have the advanced version to tell you for sure. But I think, the only difference between their 2 tags is the advanced has a hard plastic case encompassing the entire tag to make it waterproof. But I think they function the same.
