I've read many threads about Mavic Pro2 going three or more miles out without losing reception. I understand that trees and houses between the controller and the drone will shorten the distance so I tried flying at higher altitudes, roughly 250' to 350' but I'm still losing control about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away. The drone stops, then begins a RTH. Even though I have the antennas facing straight up in the direction of the craft I get the same results. Most of the time I'm flying from a suburb of Boston where there aren't many tall buildings. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say the "antennas facing straight up in the direction of the craft" do mean the tips of the antennas are facing the craft or do you mean the flat outer edges of the antennas facing the craft like this? You probably already know that but its all i can think of for now.

Here is a site with some suggestions

Fix DJI Mavic Pro And Mavic 2 Disconnected Problems And Issues Easily

Hope you get to the bottom of this issue

Strange description of your antenna. These guys don’t point straight up. Not sure if you mean you are pointing the tips at your craft?

Ahh ok. Sorry I was confused for a sec as I was thinking of my smart controller. The antenna arrangement slightly different. My bad

Thanks for the link. I recently downloaded the latest firmware. Maybe that will fix the issue. BTW, it is an issue, right? I should be able to get those distances I read about flying with few or no obstacles between me and my bird?

Definitely. I can get those distances with no interference and I don’t have my controller in FCC mode like you would

It’s ok. In some places ouside of the U.S. the controllers a limited to a lower power setting (C.E. Mode) use to local radio laws. It means we don’t get the full benefits of the Mavics max range, usually about half.

Is there a way of changing that?

Not yet for the mav2. I have managed it on my mavics

From what I believe, not at this time. The fellas are working on it though. I think I did read somewhere that the iOS version may work but I’m not sure

I think you're problem is simply interference. All of the different telecommunication signals in a Boston suburb (WiFi, cell phones, etc.) are absolutely affecting your connection. I have the same issue in my Phoenix suburb. Then I drive out to the desert where there's nobody for miles and I get the 2 or 3 miles that were promised. Sometimes even more. Try a range extender/booster. I've heard the Titan Drones Switch and 4Hawks raptor xr are worth checking out. I'm picking up the switch myself next pay check

At my house, (heavily wooded) I can only get about 3/4 of mile. On open water from my boat, I have chickened out at 3 miles with 3 bars.

I have the benefit of test flying over Long Island Sound. It's a straight 11 mile shot. I'm in Stratford Ct. Port Jefferson is 10.8 miles from where I test distance without building, trees etc interference. To make it short.... My house, bunch of trees, homes, a few cell towers. I get exactly 1.7 miles before forced RTH.. Over long island sound... 6.10 miles before forced RTH. Just my situation with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom....the difference with RC blockage and no antenna blockage from trees, homes, wifi, etc....

6 miles over water, 1.7 from my backyard, which there are trees galour, a few cell towers which one I see from my backyard. I guess the point I'm making is without trees, houses, buildings, etc. Theres less to inhibit your drones distance.
