DJI adds to the confusion by referring to the 70MM telephoto as a 3x optical zoom.They are of course misusing the term zoom and may be referring to the 3x relationship between the main 24 mm lens and the telephoto 70 mm which is about 3x.Each lens has its own sensor.

Yes ... that's just the same confusion that's been around ever since the Mavic 3 was released.
People with little understanding of photography keep referring to the tele camera as having a zoom lens.

That is true. Messing up the meaning of 'optical zoom'. It would be nice with optical zoom though. Maybe Mavic 4 can provide.

Another interesting question is whether of not all 3 cameras can run simultaneously. That capability would support Multicam editing which is enormously useful. For example, many music videos rely heavily on it for visual variety.

If they could. If would only be in the cine version, you couldn't put that much bandwidth between all three cameras at their native resolution to a V30 SD card (maximum supported continuous write speed of 240Mbps)

Here's a confusing reply from DJI customer support.
DJI Mavic 3 Pro is equipped with three cameras, capable of switching freely between different focal lengths to adapt to the shooting composition of various scenes, including the Hasselblad camera with 24mm format equivalent, a 70mm medium tele camera, and a 166mm tele camera.
The tri-camera imaging system supports up to 28x Hybrid Zoom: 1x is the original optical ratio of Hasselblad camera, 1-3x optical zoom is achieved by the medium telephoto camera, and 1-7x optical zoom is achieved by the telephoto camera.

If those tele lenses actually have a zoom range then that would be um interesting, but wondering if their marketing department and their R&D department aren't communicating well together. Because those don't look like it has the space for a zoom range without seriously closing down the effective aperture.

What's more likely is that it does digital zoom til you get to 3x in the main lens, digital zoom in the 3x lens til you hit 7x and it's digital zoom on the longest lens until the "28x"

Thank you, this is the question I've been asking all along yet nobody can clearly explain how the hybrid system works, but it doesn't appear that it gives any more optical (combined) ranges than the standard primes offer from anything I can see.

I would expect that their term "Hybrid system" is just a way not to admit that it is digital zoom, which is the worst zooming system, when compared to optical zoom.

Yes, normally when a camera company states that a lens has a 3X optical zoom, it means it can be zoomed and stopped anywhere from 1X to the max. of 3X and stop anywhere along that zoom range. So, for example, it could go from 1X to 1.3X to 2.6X to 2.9X to 3X, or what ever the user desires within that range of 1 to 3X.

However, with DJI, this may just be how they are trying to describe the optical range of each of those cameras. One being the 1X the second being a zoomed in optical equivalent of 3X and the third the optical zoomed in equivalent of 7X, with no other optical ranges in between.

It would be nice if they were real optically zooming ranges of the lenses though. Ahh, we can dream.

Yes, but in music videos they don't have multi cameras stacked on top of each other. They are all around the artist, so straight on, 3/4 front, side view etc. Then they can jump and chop between camera viewpoints. With the Mavic 3 Pro if it did have all three-camera recording at the same time, which I'm sure it is not, they would all be from the same viewpoint, just stepping in varying fixed zoom ranges.

Ohh, well that is different then. Here they are saying they are zoom camera, but I am thinking only the 1X camera has the digital (Hybrid) zoom range of up to 27X, which is rubbish unless you are filming a real Alien, of course, then anything is of value.
