So I received my Mavic 4 Pro yesterday. Upon flying for the first time, though, every time I hovered, the obstacle avoidance warnings would turn yellow and/or red in the back of the drone. As soon as I moved, it went away but would come back on after about 5 seconds of hovering. Since it was my first flight with the new drone, I didn’t fly far and I could see there were no obstacles (trees, birds, power poles, etc.) that should have been causing this. Never had this happen with previous drones, so not sure if there is a way to try to recalibrate the sensors, or if I should return it as faulty.

I also double checked that there was no packing material or anything else blocking the sensors. Shut it all down, powered it back up and the same thing occurred on the second flight as well.

I remember back with the Mavic 2, there was the assistant app that you could use to recalibrate it, but from everything I’m reading about the 4 (and there are no references to this issue that I can find) all the calibration is automatic.

Is there anything I’m missing, or should I just send it back to Adorama and get it replaced?

You seem to be experienced pilot, I am sorry to say I have no such issue with my new Mavic 4. It has 12 hours in the air.

No, I was flying at about 100 ft AGL. I forgot to put that in my original post. If I turn the warning goes away for about five seconds but then come back on in the back even after changing the heading.

many things can fool your sensors, Sunlight can for sure do it at the right time of Day. You may even have a dirty sensor, wipe them with alcohol not you thumb lol. If the sensor thing is persistant it could be a firmware issue that can be resolved by simply re-flashing, or reinstalling. Where did you calibrate your Drone? indoors perhaps..Go outside if possible and do them there.

You may try and look for various calibrations, particularly the gps. When I received my MP4P, it made me go through a gps or magnetic calibration where we need to move the drone in a figure eight/up/down/turn pattern. I think you may need to do that.

It is simply an issue where the sensors are reporting obstacles where there are none.
Talked to DJI support and they looked at logs and video of what was happening on the controller and determined it was some sort of an electrical/hardware issue and would need to be replaced. Since I only got it a day ago, I’ve already arranged the return to Adorama and fingers crossed that a (working) replacement will be
headed my way soon

One thing to add… in talking with DJI, they confirmed it was covered under the 12 month warranty even though I’m in the US.

Wow. Just wow. DJI's response to such questions seem to be all over the map. I've had conflicting responses from DJI including it could get Refesh Care and it couldn't and it would be able to be under warranty and it couldn't have any warranty, but I took the gamble and ordered from Adorama. I thought it would at least be potentially better to have ordered from here in the states (June 17, 2025).

It was definitely covered. They were ready to have me ship it back to them for repair/replacement but since it was only a day old, I’d rather have it replaced with another new one by Adorama instead of having one that needed repairs right out of the gate.

Amazing. This is the most incredible level of inconsistent responses from a company that I've ever experienced. You're definitely better shipping it back to Adorama. I didn't think they'd even take it if the box was opened but I know for sure they won't if it's been activated. I have one coming from Adorama too... Will test it out a bit before activating it. I have had other drones (my Mini in particular) act like I'm near an object when I'm 150 feet in the air. I ignore it but I would not want that from the expensive creator version I have on order.
