Hi everyone! First post on here and unfortunately it’s not a positive one! Had the Mavic Air for a couple of months and only had a few hours flight time. I took it out today and tried getting some cool shots over a lake near where I live. For whatever reason the drone just started flying diagonally by itself and was saying ‘max altitude reached’ at only about 20 foot. It was heading straight for some overhanging branches and crashed straight into them despite my efforts to steer clear. It then hit the branches and dropped into the lake.
So I have a few questions -
1- why would the drone do this?
2 - is the drone magnetic as it’s only about 6 foot away so could possibly be retrieved with a magnet?
3- I have the DJI care package but how would I stand with/without the actual drone being sent back?
I have a video of the crash which I will try and upload now.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think having the drone is a MUST under care refresh.
I'd suggest a hook on a pole etc. or a telescopic fishing landing net rather than magnets.

If it is only 6 foot away maybe you could find someone to swim in and get it.

How can I bring up the flight data?

It appears that the drone has got some serious sensor errors. More detailed flight log files will probably be needed. Try to find the .DAT flight log file in your phone and post the file here ( use the attach file button at the lower left corner of the posting window ). Follow this post to get the file : Mavic Flight Log Retrieval and Analysis Guide

Thanks for the help. The lake is quite murky so we can’t see the drone but know it’s location. We have attempted to get in the water but it’s near on impossible to see anything under water. I am happy to continue with a magnet as I think a net may get caught on the bottom. Can I confirm the Mavic Air is magnetic?
