Updated my IPhone and now it’s got a usb C connection. My Mavic Air had a lightning connector. Im not aware of a cord that goes from the controller (not sure what that connection is) to usb C. I bought a cheap Usb A to usb C cord and plugged that into the controller in the usb A slot (between the phone holder arms) and then to my new phone. I thought all was well. I can take off and fly ok but when launching I don’t seem to have any control on the ascent/decent….after I start the motors and throttle up, the drone doesn’t respond to up or down until it’s 30’ or so in altitude. Also when I hit the RTH button the drone impressively landed exactly on the landing pad but as soon as it touched down it launched itself again into the air without any inputs from me. Seems it doesn’t really take the controllers input for up/down. If I do manage to get it to land it doesn’t want to shut off either. Is there a proper updated cord that I should be using?….that has a usb-C connection? Or is this not the problem? Nothing scarier than a ascending drone thats not receiving inputs. TY

The Mavic Air came with 3 cables:
-Micro USB
-USB-C
-Lightning

You can still buy these from AliExpress.com (and most likely Ebay).

If you use the USB-A port on the bottom of the controller, you HAVE to disconnect anything from the USB connector on the side of the controller (even if you don't use it).

You can fly any DJI drone without a smart device connected.
When your drone does not respond to stick inputs, most likely there's something wrong with your controller. Calibrate it.

Fly your drone in a wide open space with the controller only (NO device and cables connected) and test if it still doesn't respond to stick inputs.
The drone will RTH/Land when you turn off the controller.

Concur. The OTG cable has nothing to do with controller stick/button commands (transmitted directly to the drone through the controller antennas).

With some drones it is possible to adjust the camera orientation with a 'virtual stick' input by holding a finger on the screen and dragging left/right, up/down, but I'm not aware of a recent DJI drone that can be flight controlled exclusively via screen inputs (virtual sticks).

If you want a new cable: the connectors are microAB to USB-C - the brand to look for on Amazon is LYONGTECH.

Sure, but you CAN fly any DJI drone without a screen (smart device) connected to the controller.
That's what I advised.
