It was a snowy day, so I shot color charts to see the various looks available on the Mavic.

MP4 and H254 compression only keeps enough information to make the resulting footage look good, leaving no latitude for grading. Any adjustment reveals that compression and shots end up looking broken. Only true 12 or 16 bit uncompressed Log/raw footage will hold up in grading. Your best bet is to take a moment to dial in a look and white balance that works with the particular light and weather conditions. Shooting flat and deciding later is not the way to go with this codec, committing to a look in camera and only making minor adjustments in post will yield very filmic results.

I'm a novice, can you explain a little further "shooting flat" and does "dialing in and white balance" mean shooting "d-cine or none". It seems contradictory.
