Mavic Pilots New Zealand

Have a look on airshare.co.nz and check out the map page for where you intend to fly and you can see any restricted airspace. Otherwise, no flying over dept of Conservation land and you are supposed to get approval from anyone whose property you fly over, which is why I mainly fly over the river here or the sea which we have an abundance of here. Also no flying over roads, for the bizarre reasoning that you might distract drivers, although I can't see how if you're up high.
Ideally we should get permission to fly over rivers and lakes too - even though it's covered in water, Ngai Tahu et al own the river and lake beds. Not sure about the sea...

For example, to fly over Lake Dunstan and the Clutha River I worked with the tribe's agent in Queenstown. Permission was granted, but a small fee was payable to cover the admin of the permission.

But who cares if you drop your drone into the bottom of Pukaki - one of the deepest lakes in NZ for example...no chance of getting it back.
