I never recalibrate unless you are seeing large bias errors. I also do my order of turn on a little different. Controller on, plug into phone, open go, enter device, turn on mavic. Good checklist though! Well done.

the most important tool to prevent flyaways is to have a maintenence schedule and preflight checklist. it helps a lot to understand why you need to do these things to prevent a crash landing

Have you ever had to recalibrate the IMU due to geographical or climatic changes?

I have disassembled and reassembled dozens of mavic's and can't remember once recalibrating the IMU. I do however have to recalibrate the vision sensors every time the bottom plate is removed.

I had a period of time where, over a long and straight distance, my MP would drift to the left. I recalibrated the IMU and she flies straight as an arrow.

are there any system checks that can show that something was in fact out, and after calibration it was corrected?

No checks that I am aware of. And yes, it corrected the problem. Using Litchi, I turned on the on-screen grid, with the "X" cross hairs in the exact center of the screen - aimed for a tree that was 3,000 feet away and flew forward. It never drifted off course; keeping the trunk of the tree dead center on approach.

Interesting.. Something to keep in mind then

suits my needs when I am attempting a record distance flight
Do you use a "daily flier" and a dedicated distance AC or does one serve both purposes?
IMHO the pre-flight checklist is good I do most of it except for the calibration (compass, IMU or gimbal) unless an error message on startup.

Discipline and routine are not a bad thing. Nice checklist and countdown
