Mavic Pro owner making problems

I'm not sure where you are in Florida but in Orange county shooting down a drone in ANY manner is illegal, and it's breaking privacy laws to fly as low as you say he's flying.

I know because I called the cops on a belligerent neighbor threatening to shoot down my drone even when I was flying at 300'-400'. Two of my neighbors and I tried to talk this guy down but he wasn't having it. At the urging of one of the neighbors who is a 911 operator, I called the sheriff. The two neighbors and I explained the situation to the deputy when she arrived. She went to her car for about 20 minutes. When she came back she explained that first sentence to me about my situation. She told me that as long as I'm not at a height that violates privacy laws, I'm good. I asked her what that was and she said there isn't a height, but not to go flying down at anything below roof level*. She went and explained that to the angry neighbor and he's never bothered me again.

Maybe between your neighbors and yourself if you take cellphone video, then show it to the cops and ask them about privacy laws, they might do something.

* I personally just get to max height pretty quick and cruise around at that height. Let's be honest at 400' you aren't making out a lot of details. Yes, there's a LOT you can see, but it's still not as good as google maps/earth.

That's is what the police officer said. Lots of people shoot at birds, squirrels and target shooting. And they would not do anything to me if I accidentally shot down a drone over my property. Actually there are a few Hawks flying around in close proximity and honestly I keep hoping one of them would go after it and save me the trouble.

They don't need to do anything, if you shoot it down he can make a complaint and then it's a federal issue with the DOJ, not the local LEO's. They are giving you bad advice.

I feel out at a public place that you have to expect that.
Well you could try to fly over your local sheriff's home a few times a day and 4 or 5 times a week and see what he does. I do not think he would like that as I am sure many of you would not like that. Now it is different if you know or are friendly with the guy flying it.
But at your home let's say where you have 60 acres and a home in the middle of your forest you want to swim in the nude or do some sunbathing or just drink beers with friends ect. Do You think it would not be a big deal for someone that lives somewhere close to you but you do not know who or where he is or his intentions. But he knows who you are and what you drive how many cars and people live there.
He knows when you are home or not ect. But you do not know why he finds you so interesting or is it he is a pervert trying to look at your 3 teenage girls? Or just say a wacko and wants to kidnap or rape your wife or teenage girls? I can tell you it will take the police 20 mins to get to us from town. Is he trying to scope out my new Harley sitting out in my driveway or my tractor or anything I may have inside? Ether way keep moving over others property and definitely DO NOT EVER SIT ABOVE THEM AND THEN KEEP DOING IT. Mind you at 40ft well that's my tree hight and he has came down to 20ft in the front yard.
**** I want you to be at least 200ft and keep it moving. I think that would be ok with most others. I am sure some others would not mind and I am sure they leave the keys in the car and the doors and windows unlocked at there home at all times and good for them. I am not that person I do expect some privacy at my home and that is why I moved out of the city.

20' and no one has a camera on their house (ring doorbell, arlo, whatever) that might've caught it?

Some kind of net gun. I can't see using a pellet gun because at that distance to hard to hit. I'm definitely using a shot gun from a hidden position and not missing at that range. Seems one of you will get him sooner or later. Now to read the rest of the post to see if it has happened.

Well, you could get an uglier wife and kids. Then after he sees them once he will never come back :D
Uglier huh...ya mean ya calling his wife and kids ugly.

Depends on how you read it. They could be super models, so any measure of less beautiful is uglier! :D
I guess your right .:)
Good Save

Hello all.. I have moved to the country and can fly my Mavic when ever I want. Here is the problem that I am having. Some one has a Mavic pro in my area and we are talking about maybe 15 homes in a 2 mile area. Well this other Mavic owner has been flying his Mavic into 5 of my neighbors yards for over 6 months and they say he has been 20 and 30 feet off the ground. Also the Mavic owner has been doing this as much as 3 and 4 times a week and even 2 or 3 times a day.

I just moved here and have 10 acres and it's off the main dirt road behind 5 acres and off the main road so you can not see my land from the road at all. I have also had this Mavic owner doing the same thing to me and he was and still is doing it, even when my 3 young teen-aged girls are outside swimming and playing. I talked to the others and they also have young kids. Well I called the police and so have the others. Well the police told me and them to shoot it down. He said we are in the country and people shoot birds, target, ect, all the time and that they would not do anything if said the Mavic was shot down. Well my neighbors have been doing just that but have not got it yet.

I contacted the FAA and they said that they would do nothing and to call the police. Well when the police came out they said if I wanted to file charges that the Mavic owner was Felony trespass and harassment. I have tracked down the Mavic owner from his home flight path and have tried to follow it back to get pictures of the guy/girl/kid doing this. I really do not want to file a report with the police but the others do. On another note I can no longer fly mine around in fear they will now try and shoot my Mavic down. Now they all have bad feelings towards drones. I believe I have found the owner and he said that he does not care and there is nothing you can do about it. He just kept saying prove harassment. I am in Florida and there is a law in the books but it is civil I believe. I have been trying to record him when he comes over my place.

What do you all think I can do or should do? Just think this guy is doing regularly and he will hover at about 40 to 60 feet and circle around. At this point it feels like he is basically spying on me and everything I am doing on my land like I put in a pool and a dog kennel then a garden and so on.
I have never and would not fly close to others homes or land and I always keep moving and stay 300 to 400 ft up.

There are Laws in Florida
HB 1027 // 2017

This law pre-empts local regulation of UAS so that only the Florida Legislature can make laws concerning the use of drones in the state, but allows local governments to enact drone ordinances related to nuisances, voyeurism, harassment, reckless endangerment, property damage, or other illegal acts. This law also prohibits the operation of drones over or near critical infrastructure in most instances, as well as prohibiting the possession or operation of a weaponized UAS.

SB 766 // 2015

This law prohibits the use of a drone to capture an image of privately owned property or the owner, tenant, or occupant of such property without consent if a reasonable expectation of privacy exists.
Buy an RC plane (See: www.flitetest.com . They have foam board plane kits that are cheap and fun to fly.) and dogfight it out of the sky! Even if you miss him, it may scare him off.

If you have the police telling you to shoot it, get that in writing and then drop it. Sure, you might get a fine, IF that person can prove you shot it down. if not, then you're off the hook. Either way, you have sent a clear message.

that's not what the op describes. he describes the mpp flying to his house, descending to 60', hovering until his battery gets low - flying home (repeat). i wouldn't stand for it. i recommend a 12 ga. with a turkey load - you get a little more range than with bird shot. as far as too fast/agile ... a mpp is no more agile than a dove, and i've shot plenty of them.

Then there is the whole shooting down aircraft debate.
Which I might point out has held up in court and cost the shooter a fine. So now there is case history to be used against people who shoot at drones.
String a bunch of clear fishing line from trees and stuff. If the mavic gets into that, problem solved!
If it's clearly over your property and close enough to down with a shotgun without presenting a danger to people, I don't think you can be charged with discharging a firearm in public. And what can he really do?
