Almost all general aviation airplanes and helicopters use barometric altimeters. Due to the expense, weight, and complexity, only the military and very sophisticated GA aircraft have something more accurate.
What we don't have with our drones is an ability to correct the altimeter based on weather-caused variations. However, this inaccuracy is pretty much irrelevant if you're trying to detect if your near to 3000m/10,000ft, as a condition of takeoff for a hobby drone. It may stop you at 9700ft, or allow you to take off at 10,300. So what, in terms of service ceiling.
