BBC Scotland has a story running tonight about airspace above a cottage being a no fly zone for drones. The grounds of the cottage are currently being dug up in the search for a missing woman.

I was wondering what might have prompted the Police to make a statement (was there masses of drone hobbyists descending to pick up some morbid footage perhaps?).

The final shot of the cottage, from a drone, confirmed it's probably due to the media TV crews putting up drones that have caused this. However, it suits their anti drones (if you are Joe Public) narrative.

Now they have sown the seed though, there will be some sickos getting their Mavic orders in tonight, so they can be primed for the next bit of Police tape they see...

Frustrating, isn't it? Once .gov has established the precedent of creating no-drone zones for a cause, it'll be expanded to fit all kinds of non-safety related issues. This is the proverbial camel's nose under the tent.

If there was ever an agency that required direct public observation by the public/press it is the enforcement arm of the government... aka law enforcement.

If there are privacy concerns, then they should what they can to shield the scene from prying eyes... tarps, covers, tents, etc. But to simply revoke the right of an average citizen or media to observe (from a safe, non-distracting distance), where does that end?

In the US, there are LEO that become aggressive (if not violent) when they notice they are being filmed by an observer from across the street. Despite the highest court ruling that such activity is protected, time and time again, bad actors prove exactly why such observation is required - and certainly should not be restricted...

This is not an anti-cop position. It's simply one of transparency and accountability. Public workers (at least in the US) are fair game in public while executing their duties.
