New Air 3s. Both the drone and the controller have SD card slots. I realize the value for storage but I would like to know the value of putting an SD card in both the drone and controller. I have several new in the package 512 micro sd cards so acquisition cost is not an issue.

Whenever you put a microSD card into the remote controller or the goggles, you have not only the video footage (although lower resolution) but also you capture the data from the drone flight such as the altitude, speed, distance from home, etc. With a large microSD card (I use a 1.5TB) you are able to keep the recording running at all times and collect it over the weeks and months; so it's there when you need it to refer back to just in case. Whatever you see on the screen or thru the goggles will be recorded to the card including the overlays. With goggles you can program this to start automatically on every flight.

When you arrive at the flight location without an sd card in the drone, you'll appreciate having the one in the controller as a backup. (Based on personal experience.)
Lol, this

Yup, what ^^ said.
You may not need the micro SD in the controller til you forget to put one in your drone.
Consider it a spot to store a spare, if nothing else.

I thought most of our drones has adequate internal memory to fall back on in case the sd card is lost or damaged or becomes full? The new drones certainly have a lot of internal space.

DJI Mini 4 Pro, for instance, had 2Gb internal memory. It needs some of that just to operate.
There's not nearly enough internal memory to capture a 4k video of more than a couple minutes.

Yep but the storage capacity is increasing on the more recent models. If I read correctly even the Neo has something like 20GB. The latest Air3s has 42GB

Given your concern for privacy, I'm surprised that you put 1+ TB of your personal flight details over several months into a drone that could crash and be recovered by a stranger.

I think you mis-read, he has it in the controller.... so unless he threw the controller when then the drone went down he would be ok there... ;)

Yep, controller only. The microSD card in my drone is copied off and emptied daily or after every flight. I like my privacy just like the next person but I'm not paranoid about it; I don't have anything to hide for the authorities. I just don't like the ordinary person or the public to have access to so much information.
