Military Will Shoot Down Drones

That article is stupid and misleading, no way in hell the military will ever be allowed to fire off a stinger anti aircraft missle at a freaking civilian drone inside our borders. Not going to happen.

"The article is stupid and misleading", because you doubt the use of the Stinger, you've missed the entire point. But in case anyone following can't discern the dif between the content of the article and a file photo used to illustrate it, the military is not stupid enough to fire a Stinger over a base and adjacent civilian neighborhoods. Something more appropriate will be used, i.e., a Browning automatic 12 gauge. Security policemen will be volunteering for the sport of it.

This will mainly impact servicemen who live on base and want to fly their drones.

Yea im sure they are going to be dumping 12 gauge rounds all over the sky as well genius. The article clearly states drones will be shot down, then the dummy who wrote it throws up a stinger photo and "meet" so and so. like a stinger has anything to do about drones or what the military is even saying. Might as well post a picture of an ah-64 firing a hellfire with a warning to drone pilots. Yes the article is stupid, basically clickbait.

Most military bases in the US are empty land with nothing to see. Housing, administration, training facilities, etc. Boring. They're not going to be shooting much down - there's nothing to worry about.

Those bases, or parts of bases, with things needing protecting are something else. Any shooting would be well "on base" - not on the perimeter shooting towards any nearby civilian vulnerabilities.

Hitting a drone with a shotgun at 400' height is a "not likely" - by the way. You'd be lucky to hit a drone at 150 - 200 feet height at short radius distance. It will take something harder and faster.

Using a stinger is the most laughable notion of all. It needs the heat signature of a turbine engine (or possibly recip) to lock onto and track. An electric drone is pretty much invisible to it.

Reply to Eric 17; Not sure why you're so angry, lashing out at me and the publisher. It's a news article by a Smithsonian publication, hardly "Clickbait". If you'd like to ascertain what weapons the military uses to exercise their new authorization, there's only one way to find out.

Can't try here our base is is a NFZ :)
