i haven't used the M4p with in month and flew today with RC controller and took about 20 images and 2 videos. when i came home and did a quick transfer i only had 2 videos and 2 images. shock. then i tried to download images with the DJI fly app on the android phone. the app just kept crashing. so i downloaded the latest app and installed - app loaded but kept saying 'app not responding' . so i deleted entire app and reinstalled. not it did not recognize my password anymore. when i request new password it send me to a all chinese web site for PW update, luckily partner is chinese.
what is going on with DJI??????
and the worst still majority of my images from today are gone. i even took the sd card out still missing pics. super disappointing. hwo can i ever trust this system again? never had these problems with mini2 and smartphone use on controller.
also downloading the map to the RC controller is ridiculous because one can only download the thumbnail size areas. it told me 7GB free but it could not download new maps. had to delete existing ones.
so overall this is no more fun at all. instead of focusing on flying and photography now all the infrastructure is messed up with RC controller and mp4.
i wish i had taken the old mini2 and N controller on the trip.
i never had actually lost images i took with the drone before and i have not gotten any errors when taking the images - very unsettling. and yes memory card has plenty of space.
thinking about it more it seems all images BEFORE i started doing video are gone

Since everyone else doesn't have these issues, my guess is ... nothing.

Image files don't go missing in flight.
There will be a simple explanation but it might take a while to find it.
For a start, you seem convinced that the drone is doing crazy things.
Thinking that way isn't helping you.

Can you paste a view of what's on the card like this:
i-PCQwh3p-M.jpg

Seeing the file numbers and times might be useful.
And try to remember what you did during the flight.
Did you format the disk .. swap to internal storage or something else that might make the files hard to find?

"...did a quick transfer..." from what? The drone SD card? The controller SD card? The drones internal storage?

In the flight app: what is set as your preferred location for image/video storage? Is it the microSD inserted into the back of the drone or the internal memory built into the drone?

Set your 'save' location to SD card and all snaps go straight to microSD. After your shoot: pop the card out of the drone, into a card reader and connect that to your computer, the 'drive' opens and viola! there are your shots.

How can I not focus on the drone or RC Co troller or software,
You could start by wondering why no-one else has their drone eating image files.
Maybe the issue was related to the other factor involved?

At the bottom of that page there is an option for english as well as many others..
Post number 6 seems to be the answer to me. perhaps the drive you recorded to was full?

That is all I exactly did and voila only part of the content was there.🙁
It is the same thing I always did. Remember 3 items were on the card but other missing and yes location was set as scared.
There seems to have been some kind of hiccup which worries me now for future activities

thanks for everyone trying to help. i checked all memories available drone, controller internal external and images are not there BUT i probably have the occam's razor explanation and it makes me look dumb. i may have not pushed the button hard enough to take the picture because on m4p the first resistance is the autofocus and the second is the actual picture. when i took the videos and the other pic i used the onscreen button.
even i do not look good here that seems to be the best explanation :) :(

I just received my new Mini 4 Pro yesterday and set it up already. I elected to save all images to the SD card. (not to cache). I usually use a card reader to upload images and videos from that SD card to my desktop and put them in a labeled file folder where I can work on them.

Right,
That is what I usually too

Oh forgot to say. The mini 2 had a 2.7k video mode which I thought was pretty good and played easily on many devices. The MP4 has only 4k minimum and puts some of my hardware on the edge. Wish they would add this 2.7k option again.

i looked at your website - really great pics. now i am curious what you will say about the image quality of the m4p. i am still unhappy. i think DJI just have not mastered the QB sensor for stills :(. maybe you process the raw files rather than using jpgs. please let me know. i took a lot of heat about my complains from the community :(

DJI make good cameras and they use the same sensor (1/1.3″ CMOS, Effective Pixels: 48 MP) for the short telephoto camera in the Mavic 3 pro.
I've got lots of great shots (shooting jpg) with it.
Here's an example from earlier this week.
