Surely if the worry is about data make it law that the data feeds through a USA check before going back to DJI ?

This is all about a trade war
Well, supposedly they reached a trade deal this week so I guess we'll have to see if that affects DJI in any way.

The deal was over rare earths, soybeans, and tariffs. The actions being taken by DJI were not part of the deal.

The deal involved only Trump backing away from his 100% increased tariff threat, a reduction from 57% to 47% on tariffs on Chinese imports to the US, and China delaying any new limitation on rare earth materials for a year.

I am aware of that but let's see if it eases any of the tensions with China over DJI.

Are there any tensions with China over DJI imports to the US? As far as I'm aware, the antagonism against DJI is entirely within the US government. Resolving it doesn't require anything from the Chinese government, does it?

There's no connection. With the current administration, all bets are off. A Trump grandson could ask for a Mavic for Christmas, and an executive order would be forthcoming.

As long as DT Jr. is on the board of directors for the american drone company "Unusual Machines" DJI probably will be done for in the States.

Unusual Machines has just today announced that their first, and only, manufacturing facility has begun operation, making drone motors. (Isn't it interesting that they received a substantial federal contract for drone motors earlier this month?) They have no drones in production and don't mention any in the pipeline. Their webpage doesn't even have a "products" page, and the largest typeface on the main page is their stock price. They're not a serious manufacturing presence and they are certainly not even remotely a competitor for DJI.

It's certainly possible that the father of one of their board members and major owners may perceive DJI as a competitor and take hostile action. It's also possible that he may see DJI as a potential market and do some arm twisting to facilitate a major purchase of motors.)

Motors today drones tomorrow, i totally agree with what you said. I believe you have your finger on the pulse of possibilities. It's quite possible "Unusual Machines" are playing the long game right now, waiting for the eventual hammer to drop on dji.

I am of the opinion the US Military was surprised by the effective results of “cheap” drone use on the Ukrainian battle field.
The magnitude of drone use , numbers & speed of adaptations observed on the battle field was an eye opener for our nations military thus realizing our nation can not match China’s technology nor production today. In an attempt to both spur our domestic technology and production as well as damage the financial success of DJI was born the DJI ban

In addition, you have to wonder what the other US drone manufacturers are thinking as they put their best foot forward and pour all of their expertise and hard work and money into a quality product to compete for government contracts.
