I see. And how do you know if they are useless when you don't even know what their job is? This country is currently suffering from lack of skilled labor, such as electricians. So what did "they" do? "They" gutted the federal apprenticeship program - the very source of training people like electricians. Yeah, get rid of those 'useless workers'.

Gotta gid rid of those useless workers so we can give Elon some more contracts and tax breaks, huh?

I said he was smart not a genius. And his personal life has nothing to do with things he has accomplished in his professional life. He's definitely accomplished more than most including you and I. Like the other poster said, he's the richest man in the world, so he's pretty smart. I'm sure if he supported the other side you'd absolutely 100% feel differently. It's sad, you can show those people proof of something, right in their face and they still will not believe it. Willful ignorance and that's stupid. It's always a treat when someone suggests that someone else should invest their time, energy, and resources to accomplish something. In that spirit, I hope each of you will send me money so I can buy a new Hasselblad X2D II camera body and an assortment of compatible Hasselblad lenses and other accessories. $30,000 would be a good start. $40,000 would be even better, because I'll also need a new computer with expanded storage to handle the larger file sizes. Thank you, one and all, for your generosity.

With the DJI ban looming, I believe we need a good drone company to appear in the U.S. But who could come close to topping DJI anytime soon? IMO, Elon Musk can. He has the technology, the money, the ability and desire to innovate, etc. This from Google:

Taking all of the commentary about Musk's personal behavior and political stunts off the table, there isn't really any reason for Musk to enter the drone market. It makes zero sense business-wise for him.

Musk doesn't enter mature markets; he prefers to enter early and be a disruptor (in the business sense of the term). Tesla wasn't the first EV company; its first EV wasn't a hit. The Model S took off in part because he created a charging network so that you could usually find a charger when you needed one.

The Model S was a cool car; no one was selling production sedans that could do sub-3-second 0-60 times. Now you have multiple companies that offer EVs with fast acceleration. The coolness factor of Tesla vehicles has largely evaporated. The Cybertruck looks like it was designed by a 10-year-old, and don't ever try to take one off-road. Ford and Rivian make better electric trucks.

X (formerly Twitter) has been a huge drag on his earnings. There are now alternatives with significant traction that didn't exist or had little usage before he bought Twitter.

He has very little competition for SpaceX. He didn't have competition for Starlink and wouldn't have been able to pull it off without owning SpaceX.

He doesn't sell mass market consumer products. To enter the drone market means entering a mature market, and his name alone would not be enough to make it successful.

Putting aside any feelings for Musk and Tesla I don't think it makes any sense for them to move into this market. Manufacturing drones would be significantly different to any of the existing products and there's no guarantees that DJI will continue to be blocked in the US leading to a significant risk that the entire operation could be wiped out if DJI could resume sales.

GoPro were in a good position to launch the Karma drone which worked with their own cameras and the stabiliser could be used separately from the drone. However when the drone launched it had significant problems with poor batterylife and connection range plus a more catastrophic problem with power failures mid-flight. That's not even comparing it to the original DJI Mavic which blew it out of the water with a much smaller size and weight with functions that all worked well. If DJI had been banned at the time, I still don't think GoPro would have got very far with the Karma but as it is the project was a colossal failure that cost GoPro a huge amount of company and almost ended them.

It would be great to see a competitor to DJI since that will usually benefit consumers however it's clearly a challenge especially with existing DJI rivals struggling to mount a challenge and both Skydio and Autel have now pulled out of the consumer market I believe (or at least reduced it)
