Hey folks!

New-ish to having a Mavic 2 Pro, coming from a Phantom 4. Y'all helped me out by giving me some pointers on how to reduce jello in my videos by slowing shutter speed down. So I invested in some ND filters, and have been practicing with them. The quality of the video is way better with them now, and I thank you for that nugget of info. One issue I am running into now, and it likely another setting or technique, is that as the light changes from darker to lighter, there is a noticeable bump in the video as the Fstop changes... I have the camera set up in shutter priority, and have the shutter set to 1/60 as I am running 30 FPS.. So the aperture is moving to keep the video properly exposed, but every time it makes an adjustment, there is a big bump in the video when it makes this change... Anything I can do to help with this?

Use manual exposure and set your shutter to 1/60 and compensate with the aperture/ND filter. Once you have your setting, it will be locked off and the exposure won't change as the light changes. It's better to slightly underexpose the darker areas than to overexpose highlights so compensate for that when you set your exposure.

Ugh, thats what I was worried about... I tried with manual settings... ISO 100, 30fps, 1/60 and F4 and ND8. Can you take a look at

and let me know what you think? Feedback would be great about what I could do different. Starts out at F4, but for some reason, halfway through, it bumps up to F4.5 by itself. Many thanks for the tip!

I looked through your footage and I really didn't see any jarring exposure changes. The change may have happened during one of your pans or something like that but wasn't really all that apparent. When you are shooting as the sun is coming up or going down, at a certain point, the light does in fact change which would account for the aperture change. !/2 a stop is not all that much. I would say to you however, if you aren't already aware, to slow down your pans. This may have just been a fly around to try and test out why the aperture is changing so I'm not certain that advice is relevant. The guys on the forum here are pretty good at giving constructive feedback if you are just now learning about video and camera work so I would encourage you to post a video or 2 for feedback and you will most likely get answers to any of your questions and a lot of helpful tips and techniques.

The change happens at 1:11... I am not sure why it would happen at all if the settings were on manual.

As for the panning, oh, absolutely... this video was for testing only... I do quite a few productions for people, and have worked as a camera man in the TV industry for 25 years, so I have a pretty good foundation on what looks good and what doesn't... This flight was exclusively to figure out this manual setting thing.

And thats my biggest concern is the differing light conditions during a shoot... If it is all overcast or all sunny, its not too bad. But a few clouds is going to be a PIA..

Thanks so much for your suggestions... I've been flying since 2013, but this is the real first drone I've had that basically has a DSLR hanging under it lol

I got a contract last year for the cruise ship industry here in the city, and the rolling shutter problem really shows itself when you got a big, white thing in blistering sunshine.. Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be maddening when it ruins your shot..
