I recently purchased a Mini 3 and RC remote. I could've gotten a more expensive model, but the Mini 3 is so much of an improvement over my 1st-generation Mavic Mini.
One of the things I particularly like is the RC remote with a screen. Now, I don't have to hassle with hooking up my cell phone. However, I have learned that you still need to have your cell phone with you ... if you intend to use a map on the screen.
Apparently, the RC controller needs the phone's WiFi / 5G in order to connect to the maps. The first time I flew, I had left my phone in the car, and when I tapped on the little box at the lower left of RC's screen, I got a blank screen instead of a map. So, I did some research and found that you should have your phone with you, and set it as a WiFi Hotspot.
Believe me, the map has saved my butt many times when I lost sight of my drone and was able to guide it safely home, using the same path it went out on.
