there was time when I needed 3 hands for hand launch and controller and as there was no way to clip a lanyard onto the controller, some have made a single point connection for their lanyard but I found with a tablet the controller would tip over top heavy so this is what I've done fixed the cord either side of the antennas and held it in place with 1" gorilla tape with a knot at the bottom just in case, I don't think normal duct tape will be good enough.
feed the cords either side of the of the antennas then put your tab/phone in place, that way you have a 2 point fixing to stop the controller tipping over
