Ok so the dullest day of my life since I bought my Mavic 3 months ago.

Was flying in a park with a friend of mine. He has a Phantom 4 Pro, which he purchased second hand yesterday.

We decided to have a race on Sport Mode.

Both drones were about 5-6 meters apart, both facing straight.

1-2-3-GO. About 10 meters and the phantom smashes into mine. The gimble has broken. One of the landing gears and the cover underneath one of the arms are broken.

Lucky I have DJI Refresh, which my friend has paid for.

I am still not sure whether to send it off for repair on Refresh and pay the £80 or to buy a new landing gear, and gimble base?

After inspecting his flight record it shows his Yaw moving to the right by 10%. That explains all!

Haha especially if you have sausage fingers like my mate and are completely reckless with everything you do in life.

I feel more sorry for him as he has paid for my excess with the Refresh. He purchased a second hand Phantom 4 for £900 and picked it up last night. It was his second flight and he’s is broken aswel

For racing purposes there exist more dedicated and less expensive drones...only "positive" side effect: It shows that the most fragile part of the Mavic is it's gimbal...( and an expensive one to replace as well).

Yeah I’ll get a £30 one next time I want to race ha.

My Mavic has been sent off to Dji for repair. Should have it back 7-10 days.

I'm just going to drop this right here....

Remember these simple safety guidelines when
flying your unmanned aircraft:

  • Don't be careless or reckless with your UAS
  • Fly below 400 feet and remain clear of obstacles
  • Stay away from other aircraft at all times
  • Keep your UAS within your sight
  • Don't fly near airports, stadiums, or other people
  • Don't fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Keep away from emergency responders

I bold(ed) a few things from the FAA... lol

Fly safe out there!

I do consider myself and sensible when flying my drone. I am a professional operator and lucky enough to have obtained CAA license from my work place.

The park was absolutely empty at the time and was having a little bit of fun with my Mavic.

Your first point I have sent to my friend, who crashed his drone into mine lol

This is why planes are separated by VERTICAL distances. If you are going to race have VERTICAL separation. Easy to drift side to side. You have to try and change altitude. Think before you fly.

Really Guys? Having fun with the drone is why any of us bought it. Keep on racing.. I crashed mine and sent it back to the factory and they didn't repair mine but sent me another that was refurbished. It doesn't fly the same and now I'm unhappy with it..
