Recently, I noticed my DJI Mini 2 Drone having what appears to be hesitation or jittering of the Gimbal as the drone rotates to a new position when shooting a Pano Globe.
I have provided a video of the jittering, shot over my back deck at about 6-foot, so I could also get a video close up of the Gimbal jittering, and there was no wind.
A Pano Globe is a series of 25-photos that the firmware stitches together to produce a 360° Photosphere. The drone shoots three photos, High, Level, and Low, from 8-positions of the compass (yawing 45-degrees from each position).
I have searched the archives here and in other drone based web sites and I even straight Googled the issue and have not found one instance of it happening as I've described and I am hoping one of the members has a solution or at least a probable cause.
My Mini has not had any accidents, hard landings, no bumps, and no jarring. It is running the latest updates to the Fly App and Firmware, and I have re-calibrated the Gimbal, and the Compass and IMU twice from different locations. I have also removed the RID Module (although the close-up video was shot before it was removed and it did not make a difference…).
I use four different Android devices on the Controller, a Galaxy Tab S2, a Galaxy Tab A8, a Motorola Moto G Power (2022) and a Motorola Power G Play (2024) and the jittering occurs on all four devices.
The Jittering occurs in all three modes, Cine, Normal, and Speed; but the jittering only occurs when shooting a Pano Globe and when the Drone is rotating the 45-degrees to the next shooting position.
It does not occur an any other time, not when Yawing Right or Left, nor while panning the gimbal up or down in any flight mode (as demonstrating in the video at 1:25…).
I fly a DJI Mini 2 and I like to shoot Pano Globes, which are also called 360 degree photospheres. A photosphere is a photograph that enables the viewer to see in all directions and even zoom in. I Publish my photospheres on Google maps and Google Earth.
To shoot a photosphere, on my mini 2, it is in the Camera's Pano menu and it is called a Globe, some of the later DJI models call it a Sphere.
In this sample of one of my photospheres, I grab the Peg Man and when I do, the map lights up with all the Blue Lines where Google Camera Cars have driven down offering a Street View. But, as you can see there are also what Google calls Location Circles and they represent the various photospheres around the world…
These Location Circles are the photospheres I Shot around Messick Point, Poquoson, Virginia.
So, I grab the Peg Man and drag him to the location circle and the map immediately brings up the photosphere…
I then can scroll all over the photo, up, down, and all around and I can even zoom in…
That over there across the water is Langley Air Force Base… And yes, I need my part 107 to get an authorization in fly here and I had to contact the ATC beforehand…
And here it the actual Photosphere on Google Maps…
I am thanking everyone who has taken the time to read this post and watched the videos.
