My SRC Lanyard setup

I found a nice almost flat pan head screw and used it with a picture hanging d-ring. I really was almost flush and added maybe an 1/8 inch. But I really did like Starz screw and now use that. It fits fine in the two cases I've used.

Did the D-Ring scratch the bottom of the controller at all? Or was it protected by the base of the screw?

The problem I see with almost all lanyard setups so far is the screws increase the height of the controller significantly while in storage, unless you want to be fiddling with screws before every flight which kind of defeats a key purpose of the SC (fast setup). I don't really see any other way to do it though unless there is some sort of quick release eyelet available that doesn't extend beyond the threads when not in use. The SC *barely* fits upright in the main area of a Lowepro Droneguard BP250 and screws make it too tall to fit. Peak Design makes excellent straps though.

Quick release ......

Quick release ......

The large eyelet screws are the issue - not the lanyard :) For example the bag I am using currently, I don't even have a few milimeters to spare before putting a lot more pressure on the SC than I would be comfortable with when I close the lid. The eyelets shown there look like they add a good 1/2" to the SC which for my purposes would be a deal breaker, unfortunately. The folding D-ring solution looks pretty good as long as they do not ever contact the SC and scratch it.

They are 1/2 inch in height plus about 50 thousandth of an inch.
Even if I made a folding version, it would be a minimum of 3/8 tall.

I don't think it would scratch it but my original harness hook was metal and as you can see, I did create a jury-rigged system. But using the lanyard shown in recent pictures would have fixed that issue. I have the lanyard Funnone has now and like it. Ignore the green wire (that was to use a central mavmount one-clip lanyard. And I've since seen smaller d-rings, too.

Okay, being practical, the SC needs SOMETHING as it is too big/heavy just to handle and find a convenient spot to place down. I think a lanyard. So accept the fact that it will gain a bit in that dimension.

Here is my current setup... 2 screws purchased at home depot (black), 2 picture frame D-rings purchased on Ebay (black) and strap from fly more kit. Works perfect and looks great!20190315_174542.jpg20190315_174613.jpg20190315_174526.jpg.

Thanks for all the pictures guys - those look like they would work from a size point of view but the D-Rings look like they can contact the base of the controller which is too risky for me. Though I suppose I could just put some foam tape or something there for protection.

Also I have no problems using it without a lanyard, one-handed handling or otherwise (no different than using the regular controller + smartphone), so I might just leave it alone until a"Goldilocks" solution presents itself. I have never had to put it down, even to hand-launch the drone, and if I did I could use my camera bag.

I just feel safer having it around my neck, personal comfort issue. ;) I am less concerned about the d-rings scratching the base, but now that you mention it, I'll put something in place to protect that.

I am also the most an@l (really? that word is blocked? ) person in the world with regards to keeping my gear in as-new condition, so keep that in mind when you see me trying to decide what to do ;) Some foam tape or similar should take care of any scratching - just make sure the tape doesn't use an adhesive that will damage the controller or be impossible to remove without harsh chemicals.

I also make sure my hands are washed and free of sunscreen/lotion/DEET before flying - DEET/Bug spray for example will strip the labeling right off your controller (or camera or any other similar electronic), and sunscreen will permanently stain plastic/rubber.

A little Vinyl like is used for a wrap or a controller wrap would work for the possible scratches

so why does everybody think this is a good setup? it sucks because it's Not balanced!
some people just don't get it!

it sucks anyways unless balanced! everybody and there brother knows this!

I'm very happy with the screws made by @Starz and the small quick release I added to my landyard. Not getting any scratches and it looks professional. Fortunately it also fits nicely in my backpack.

The gpc item i think is a good solution, with the exception of the single point of connection. There’s another one somewhere that I’ve seen that looks a bit like the one I made a few months ago that has two connection points. I think it just depends on how you’re carting the controller around to figure out what system works best for you.C1C8C354-7A70-4661-B859-1DC13DD5A04A.jpeg

Contact Starz (member on this site) he made the screws ($18 shipped + PayPal fee .88 cents) and the strap at Bestbuy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/peak-design-carrying-strap-black/6199147.p?skuId=6199147
Cost has changed slightly. My better half found a copy of the electric bill for the tool room and I didn’t get dinner that night. Along with what the post office and office max (padded envelope) gets, they are at 21.00 now.
I’m still doing a few for people that want them. There are several different solutions to this part of the smart controller besides the ones I’ve done.

Well honestly that was the selling point for me. Every radio I've owned since 2005 at a single point in the center of the radio so you can drop it and it would hang on your front sticks up. I would rather have it hang like an RC radio then like a camera.
