Trying to get approval via nav canada for a light and been emailing this address i've always used before... anyone know if this is till the right procedure?

That is the right email. Once I waited 16 days and no response so I had called them and had it pushed through. Someone accidentally dropped the ball. The response time on the online forms have been wonderful and refreshing. They just need to clear up some bugs like the seconds for the coordinates do not allow decimals. For a while they didn't even have seconds. Will take a few months to iron out the kinks.

Did the online form today. Got approval in 10 MINUTES...... I'm quite impressed with that.

yes i've always had approval same day, sometimes very fast like you if the mission is done pretty low altitude and away from things but if your in a VFR flight path with higher altitude and they need permission from an FSS i've had it take a few hours. but never been an issue, im usually booking a few days out.
