Neighbour upset for flying next to his property.

I agree with much that you say, however, there will always be that one person who will ruin it for everyone. 99.9% of people are compliant and thoughtful but it just takes one guy. Same with guns, 99.9% of gun owners are compliant with the laws and regulations...... it's the criminals who aren't compliant and ruin it for everyone. You will never talk sense into those people.

Google can already see into your back yard, your backyard is already on the internet for the world to see. I was shocked once when a guy on a forum who I got into a spat with published photos of my house with my cars and license plates. The reasonable expectation of privacy is a thing of the past. If you are in public you have given up your rights to privacy. The way I see it, it is up to you to make sure you protect yourself from others who want to invade your privacy. Most people are already on edge knowing the Government records your phone conversations, all the info on your computers, drones are just on more straw on the camels back, even though compared to government intrusion into our lives, drones are nothing in comparission.

That said, on a human level I don't want to cause my fellow humans to get angry and will do my best to avoid that. I don't need government regulations to dictate morals and thoughtfulness to me.

Let's face it, the alarmism of drone safety is hyped beyond reason. A teenager can pass a driving test, and get a car. Cars kill people everyday. Drones have never killed anyone. The issues around drone regulations are based on government control over your ability to access the same things they can access, basically YOUR privacy. They certainly don't want us competing with them.

In socialist or communist countries drones are highly regulated if not down right illegal. Ask yourself why that is...... for safety? Yea right!

The main difference that our "neighbors" are concerned about though is us being able to view their "private" backyard (or other) space live as opposed to the google maps which are just snapshots.

In that case probably best to avoid pointing your camera in that direction. All someone needs to do to see my backyard is to look over the fence. They could hold their iPhone over the fence and film all day long. In fact if I were serious about spying on my nieghbors id hang out on my roof with a telephoto lens, way better than a noisy drone with flashing lights hovering outside their window.

Doesn't the government have insect drones anyway?

I told one of my best friends today I got a drone..... the first words out of his mouth were.... Oh, now you can spy on the neighbors! He was half joking when he said that, but unfortunately this is how people have been conditioned to think.

I think drone users get a bad rap because of all the articles that come out about drones spying on people. Like that one about the guy who was assaulted at the beach. The guy ended up being a scumbag, but in that isolated situation it turned out that his flying height was too high to get clear shots of anyone sunbathing.

On the other hand some people are always on a short fuse. They could be upset about his drone today, but tomorrow start claiming that his security cameras are too high.

You are going to assume UK law applies in NY? And HE has a lot to learn?
You are assuming that, not me. I still dont think he is abiding with NY rules and regulations.

Espesially when they have a drone hanging over there garden.

I like to put people at ease about what a drone can do and what most of us use them for.
I send them to my website where they can see that I'm not some creepy guy out there spying, but instead they see I'm a photographer that is just exploring the different camera angles that our new technology allows us.

Instead of fearing the drone, after seeing my pictures, most people become very interested in it.
Very nice images around Wisconsin. Your strategies make real sense as much of the public overestimates the surveillance capability of this class of machine. A few images and videos should go a long way to alleviate the fears and distrust.
