New battery firmware - battery hot

I get it, all I'm saying before the update it was not that hot, and I was not getting messages about being too hot. And I played with it even more because I was trying to get this thing to fly.

Testing now how quickly temp increases by just beeing on, freshly charged battery 100% from cold 23C AC on and just seating on the floor;

5 min - 28.7C battery 97%
10min - 33.3C battery 95%
12min - 34.8C battery 94%
15min - 37.5C battery 93%
17min - 39.0C battery 92%
20min - 41.5C battery 91%

Wow 20min 10% of the battery gone, that fast in my eyes, how many times someone will go out turn the AC on and leave it while doing some stuff to get ready to fly, I guess always keep your "Bird off" is the best solution.
If you consider the battery is less than 20wh worst case scenario is idle load with 10% used in 20 mins of 6 watts. Hard to know what you consider fast usage, 6 watts at idle doesn’t seem to be suggestive of an inefficient design for what it is.

It seems all DJI drones run hot when left idling in the ground. The M2, even with an internal fan, gets a lot hotter than might be expected.

Still can't figure out if firmware update affected the bat temp:

Did few flights yesteday

second flight battery was in my upper inside pocket

thirst flight similar profile

felt windy and cold

Efficiency factor is very high, and this works great in cold weather, but I have an impression this drone would cook in +25C will be experimenting more :)

With my Mavic 2's I'm always concerned with heat and always remove the battery and have it sit on a fan to cool down after every flight, I also do this with the AC and smart controller.
I do live in the HOT desert too.
I'm charging my new Mavic Mini batteries right now and also have a fan blowing on them, the wall plug thing gets really hot.
I have an old laptop cooling pad I use along with a few hand fans.

Not as cold but my battery temperature went the other way, will be interesting to monitor as UK temps fall. Firmware up to date, didn’t notice batteries getting hot when idle at home.

Greetings! First post in this forum.
Seasoned RC flier (20 odd years?) glo - gas - electric; heli - fixed wing - couple of small quads. First DJI drone.
Excellent info on battery firmware updates, which I had not yet come across. I was able to update my 2 unflown batteries using the DJI Assistant for Mavic 2 software.
Thanks so much, and I'm sure I will be lurking around here a whole lot!!!
Have a good Sunday!

What do you think the problem is? Doesn’t seem to be one form what you have posted.

I played with a drone before battery firmware upgrade, it was on at list 60min while I was playing with options, upgrading firmware etc. I didn't notice a battery or drone being hot.

Then a day or two later I upgraded the battery firmware and right away noticed hot drone after being on for 20 min, I got message "battery hot please cool it down"

I will try to buy a new battery with old firmware and do the test and compare.

Today I flew inside for 12:43 and battery temp was 48C=118F

Battery firmware can’t force the battery to deliver more power- only increased load can. I suspect your suspicions are unfounded or misdirected.

I think the firmware is not in the battery, but in the craft, because I have 3 batteries and i have done just a single firmware update for battery, even if i changed the battery was not coming other firmware

Hi, two of my three batteries promoted a firmware update when plugged into the aircraft, that would suggest there is some intelligence in the battery.

I too have done a firmware update on two out of three batteries. Rather odd.

Just did a quick flight test indoors and managed 26mins hovering and got the drone to 3% battery.
I've now plugged it in to check how much power it takes to get it back to full. It's currently taking a little over 1.5A at 12v which seems quite decent.

Well after a drain from 100 -> 3% I checked the numbers and can see that it really did take 1hr20mins (almost), it was charging at 1.5A @ 12v for most of the charge time (18w) and took 18.82Wh

I did put the charger dock onto a different power supply to see if it'd draw more power but the charging dock is definitely limited to QC2.0 speeds which is hard capped at 18w.

Got myself 2 new batteries today, our local store finally got the shipment, now I have 5 and I'm ready for longer trips.

I also run test old vs new firmware drain and temp. It had to be my imagination, the temperature increase was exactly the same.

A little discrepancy in not even cell voltage on the old firmware.

What I found interesting it shows that new battery was already charged 14 times, but this might be due to bad .dat phrasing by airdata, since I didn't start the AC just turned it on I didn't have .txt files only .dat

Data below to illustrate I was wrong with the temp:
