New Mavic Mini owner - Southern CA

Received a Mavic Mini from my son for Father's Day. Loving it! Got the combo with 3 batteries which I'd recommend. Haven't left the backyard/cul de sac yet but have weekend plans.
Welcome to the forum. I love SoCal, especially the San Diego/La Jolla area. Happy and safe flying!

Welcome to you from the wide-open spaces of Texas!

Born in LA, lived in San Diego for 25 years, but haven't flown my drone there yet. Guess I'll have to see it thru your lens (a pretty good one).

Don't sell the Mini short--it's a high performance machine with a great camera, however it doesn't buck the wind as well as the beefier drones do. So be sure to read the manual, and practice using “Find My Drone” (Chances are you will crash, and you will lose your Mini. Just be sure you know how to retrieve it!

Lots of neighbors from So-Cal and over 100,000 others of us from around the world are here to help you gain skill as a pilot and photographer.

Glad to have you with us!

Hey, welcome to the forum. I'm a beginner with the Mavic Mini as well. Just over a month. First thing I did: I found a nice, big, open, empty soccer field and just "played" with my Mini - flew by eye (visually monitoring the drone and making decisions based on what I saw the drone doing) and also learned to fly while looking at the live video feed, seeing thru the "eye" of the Mini. I also investigated every tree and light post around the perimeter. Well, a month on and I'm still "playing" with my Mini. LOL
It's great fun and there's so much to learn. There's learning the rules and laws, readying for each flight, actually flying the drone while managing the DJI Fly app and the camera, gradually getting so you can do maneuvers with less thought and doing them more smoothly...
Happy flying - you're gonna have a ball!

Welcome to the forum from Chicago the Windy city. Hope you enjoy your MM, as some probably suggested to read the manual. And, understanding
how to use DJI MM RTH accurately. Returning home is a useful feature on DJI brand drones, however it is possible that the way this system works may be misunderstood by novice users, which unfortunately can sometimes lead to avoidable drone accidents. Please make sure you're certain you know where the home point is currently marked before initiating RTH. The RTH feature is one of the most complex features of a DJI drone. While it works very well and rarely fails, it can do unexpected things if your not sure how it works. There are many possible scenarios that could occur when RTH is initiated. Carefully review the RTH section of your DJI manual so you fully understand what to expect. On this forum we look out for each other, encourage safe and fun flying.
