Interesting. There may be bits and peices on the US webaite that dont appear on the UK site. I'll steer clear of any firmware downloads however as there will probably be issues.
The mini is definatly bound to the sellers account so I'm in contact with the guy. The Pro is a bit more complicated as the drone is refusing to link to my phone for data transfere. It talks to the controller and the drone fly's but no camera view. Having fun.....
I am sorry to hear that the owner did not un-bind the drone before selling… If by chance, the seller cannot or will not un-bind the drone, You are up the proverbial creek, DJI will do nothing to help, They issued this notice to potential second hand buyers…

They will help the original owner un-bind the drone, but no one else…

If you do not get the mini un-bound, I would recommend that you do not do any updates to the app. Sometimes, an updates requires the owner to again log on and activate the drone… In four-years, I have had to do this only once…

As for the Pro, YouTube has lots of great videos to help you with this…

Good Luck!

Hi. Many thanks for taking the time to write this intro to owning and flying. I believe there is always something to learn from others, experience. Both drones where second hand and where aquired at pretty low bids. I have built drones from scratch in the (very) distant path and decided I'd get one that worked first time without, tinkering. Also the abilities of the modern drones are far superior to the 'Model T's' that I put together. For a start they now have cameras. I didn't know about the bonding process relating to the DJI account. I have now contacted the sellers to check if they actually, unbound them. Now off to search for more info.
Cheers, Kev.
Which DJI app are you trying to use with the Mavic pro? If it's DJI FLY: no wonder you're stuck. The original Mavic pro (and the Mavic 2) use DJI GO4.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

You did not mention if those drones were new or used… If they are used, I hope the drones were unbound from the original owners accounts… If you do not know what I am talking about and the drones are still registered to the original owners, then you might want to return them as they will never really be "your drones…" It's like selling a used car and not turning the registration and title over to them… If the Drones are new and you can pretty much ignore all that I have written… If not Google unbinding a DJI Drone…

I cannot advise you about insurance in the UK, but you might try asking your home, apartment, car insurance about it. A lot of insurance sell hobbist insurance but you have to get a lot more serious if you are going to be commercial about it…

Since you are new to drones, here is some Good Old Fashion Advice…

You paid a lot of money for that Drone, put your phone number on it. If your drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, and then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a puppy or kitten opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 6 feet (2-meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, "Home point Updated."

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Fly On and Fly Safe…
Just a quick udate on the drones I bought off ebay. Mavic Pro is going back as I couldnt get it to link to my Samsung phone for camera and data dowloading. I tried with DJI Fly app and two others that the seller recommended. He used an iPhone.
I have sorted the Mini 3. It was linked to the sellers account but after a lot of messaging I got the guy to send me his log in details. The drone was not on the account and it transpired that the guy hade to accounts. The Mini was on that one. Al sorted and flying now. TYhe Mini is a nice little drone. Its a lot more managable than my early, self build, racing drones from many years ago.

Al sorted and flying now.
Good for you, now go out and have some fun flying it… Make some good videos and shoot some great 360° Photospheres and post them on Google Maps for the entire world to see your work…
