OK, I did all the updates OK and went to test the new modes for quick shot.
The selfie mode is OK, but I can do much better manually, the rocket mode ditto, I can do much better manually,
The Helix mode is good, and I am not good enough to do this manually, although I sometimes use Litchi to do this, but not as good as the helix.
It would be good if you could adjust the settings, height, speed etc, maybe you can , I have only had a quick look.
I think these modes are much more geared to the Spark, which of course is their origin.
I will use helix, but not rocket or selfie. I use Litchi for orbit and get excellent results.
The active track worked very well and I will do some more testing.

I haven't tried these yet (haven't even updated), but I assume the advantage of these modes is you can initiate these effects and put the remote down, instead of having a selfie of yourself looking down at a remote?

Yes , you are correct, once you initiate you have passed control over to the MP, then you can do what you want. I can still do some very good selfies without looking at the remote, and sometimes I like to do a reveal shot on the way up. I am new to the Mavic, but have 300 flights on my Phantom, so far very impressed with the Mavic.

I also think most of the modes are pointless. Options are seldom bad though. I think Helix is the only thing that adds anything. Would be extremely difficult to get that type of shot manually. Rocket, I can fly straight up, no problem. Selfie, not difficult but I could see where someone might want this. Orbit, already in the app. Most of these modes can already be done using Active Track (Orbit especially). DJI just seems to have combined some uses into one mode. Might be more confusing for some people as now you have more "modes" that might be confusing as how they are different from each other.

I'd still give DJI a thumbs up for effort.
