At least it wasn't rush hour but way over reaction by police
From the article "prompted a shutdown of the block," and "Police responded and blocked off the street because of debris"

It sounds like they didn't close an entire square city block containing the hotel, though the hotel does occupy the entire block. It sounds like they closed only one side. On the Sixth Avenue side, the block is less than 200 feet long. The long sides are about 500'. I'd be reluctant to criticize the closure based on what the article says.

The media stokes hysteria, linking completely unrelated events to garner our attention through fear mongering:

"The drone strike happened the same day Luigi Mangione, 26, accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the same Midtown hotel in December, was set to appear in state court."

It's simply pointing out the coincidence in two events related in location and timing. Most folks will just say, "Hmm, how about that?" I don't know anyone who would read that and become fearful and hysterical.

Your reaction seems to be quite different.

In the South....we call that "ate up with the dumba*s". Common sense just flies away with the drone.

The reason for the shutdown is that the drone got stuck on a ledge of the building, and there was the possibility that it would fall off and hit someone, ...along with whatever else may have been damaged, although it is not clear what else may have been damaged. The wind speeds were quite high that day and the FDNY equipment necessary to climb up and retrieve it takes a lot of room..
There are a lot of people in Midtown Manhattan at any time

along with 10 million other things that happened in NYC that day, I'm sure.

I am not a fan of the media ...but I do find it necessary to point out that you conveniently left out the last line of the report which was:
"The drone incident was not related to that court proceeding, sources said."

Why would you leave that out? Sounds like you are the one looking to stoke hysteria and engage in "fear mongering"...even without the disclaimer, you found that statement to be stirring up hysteria and fear?
