Odd question about a long range flight

Here's an off-the-wall question.

Has anyone tried to carry extra batteries as a payload, wired to extend the range of the drone?

As an engineering question, completely distinct from any regulatory considerations...could that work?

This has been done many times. We have a section in the forum that normally is hidden for users but you can enable in the profile configuration for Drone Mods and Software mods.

Having says that. This is not the correct section to speak about this subject.
