@cderoche : don't expect too much. Unboosted Nanosync is rather disappointing. So almost as good as unboosted Nanosync is not saying much. But it's a lot cheaper than a Nanosync and does improve the range a little bit, in my case by about 15%. So when I say it works quite well, it's considering the price is relatively quite cheap.

Well the big thing with these besides cheap and easy to install, and take off. I don't have to do major surgery on my $300 remote. There's something very unsettling to me hearing all those plastic parts snap and make cracking sounds, I just know I'll break something. I do wish the remote came with the detachable antennas and the little connectors to stick other ones on. If they make a little difference they're worth it. The ones I have I can't tell at all.

Ok, without wanting to go off topic too far :) : I only get roughly 20% more distance (vs standard) with unboosted Nanosync. It's much more expensive, a bit cumbersome, and we have to open up the remote to install it. So yes, personally I prefer 3D Solutions refectors compared to the Nanosync :)

It’s funny but i ve never seen any improvement with reflectors, only worse results. Also with aftermarket antennas just minor improvements. 1.5w mod, and if that does not work bite the bullet and open the remote for boosting. I ve modded over a dozen of remotes (and had zero experience with this) and NEVER broke anything. Just once the pauze button flew off and i had to search for it. One remote i opened 4 times already and still nothing broken.
The plastic is of really good quality. I guess DJI also made this into perfection so it makes a lot of noise when we open it. They hope it will scare us so we do not proceed further.
Also the mavic (especially the top shell) makes noise when opening. Same story nothing breaks.

Probably also depends on the reflectors and the conditions of where we are flying.

BTW, I want to confirm that lolo's method of reversing the front landing legs to gain more signal works! I haven't get the chance to test by how much (for my flying condition) as the wind was way too strong to fly far today. That's probably the cheapest way to get slightly more distance as it's free!

Lolo, what’s that?

i had great results with the windsurfers on my p3, so im a huge believer .. put on my mavic, and **** if i only got half the range. I put them on the spark, doubled range. back to mavic, half the range. I dont think the mavic likes them at all!!! (On my p3 they took me from 20k to 60k)

Swap them side to side. Only 2 screws directly line up but they bolt on. By reversing the angle, the antennas will be closer to vertical in forward flight.
The stock antenna angle is likely for style and packaging vs function.

Meaning you take them out - put the left one on the right one's side, and vice versa? Or just flip them around in their own spot?

I am not affiliated with Dynamic 3D Solutions in anyway other than as a somewhat satisfied customer :)

When you get 15% more range with a cheap $16 reflectors and only get 20% more range with much more expensive antennas (and more cumbersome to install), you'll feel satisfied enough. lolo also uses his own reflectors to go vertical. So probably some reflectors work better than others.

Do you think drilling holes in the legs will also help with the range?
Good question. It depends on whether the 1.5w saved in hover is maintained during forward flight. Up front the arms are a horrible design with the angled top surface and prop wash will hit fairly squarely. Another bit of style over function compromise.

I figure with holes up top, air pressure can enter the hollow arm and exit out the rear.

Yeah, they should've made the edges rounded instead of boxy for better aerodynamic. But then again, this thing was not designed to go the distance you guys are doing :)

Ok guys, now that some people are finally getting their Mavic's delivered, people are wondering what kind of range this thing has compared to the P4 & P3. We're looking for the longest distance from home, not the total traveled. If you would like to be added, please post the following:

  • Screenshot showing the maximum distance from home, either from the DJI Go App, Litchi, or Healthydrones.
  • Screenshot of you making it back home
  • Please describe the flying environment, such as tree interference, hills, buildings, etc.
  • What type of mods, if any, such as antenna upgrades, battery mods, etc.
  • Tag me in the post so I get a notification. Tagging here is just like Twitter, @JakeMaxxUAV
I will keep this list updated. If I miss your post, please send me a PM.
