Old Man Shoots at Drone

They let Mr. Winn take a plea deal. He owes Walmart 5 grand, he owes the county fee's and he is on probation for 6 months. The terms state if he violates any law within those 6 months he will serve his sentence in prison.

I’m really hoping his right to possess a firearm has been permanently revoked. However, most likely any such restriction is part of his six month probation and those rights will be restored upon successful completion.

The monumental lack of judgment exhibited makes him an ongoing threat.

Trying to figure out why this guy OWES Walmart 5 grand?
Would also be nice to know the terms of his PLEA Deal and what kind of Jail Time he faces if he screws up again!

My understanding was that the 5 grand was restitution for destroying the drone. Not really a fine, but basically partially reimbursing Walmart for the drone he hit.

If he was convicted of a FELONY, chances are he will not be allowed to carry a Firearm in the future! That means OPEN Carry or Concealed Carry! It all depends on the PLEA agreement. He committed 2 Felonies which usually cannot be reduced to misdemeanors!

It is too bad that people will never learn! If you stop and think about it. He fired a Gun, NOT having a CLUE where those bullets would go or land! Just a lack of total common sense!

How does Walmart figure into this? This Guy was firing at a Drone from his own property?? Or was the drone being flown by Walmart or a Walmart Employee?
Hopefully, if the Police didn't confiscate his weapon, he will Lock it up and not bring it out again!

People need to know that the AIRSPACE above your HOME and Property does not belong to you! It is controlled in one way or another by the FAA! And Drones are Aircraft, NOT Toys!

Hopefully his Bank Account is a little smaller and maybe he will have learned a Lesson!

His honesty was refreshing, but he seemed to not display a “normal” reaction when handcuffed and told he was in serious trouble. He actually had time to think about his actions, because he had to go back into the house to retrieve his gun. Which, to me, adds to his mental/emotional state at the time.

Also, as he said in the video he thought it might be a kid that got the drone for graduation and was being a peeping tom. Why would he blow up over that? Unless, as the news report indicated, he had complained to his HOA. Maybe, he complained to the HOA many times and they blew him off.

Why didn’t Walmart and DroneUp do a PSA, in some way, to forewarn the neighborhoods they were going to do mock delivers. I’m not saying it should be required, but it might have gone a long way in developing positive public perception.

I’m not condoning his actions, just trying to figure out why something so minor would set him off.

The Drone was Owned and was Delivering products for Walmart. His weapon was probably seized and destroyed.

If we knew this we could cure Kareness....Idle hands and a strong sense of entitlement seems to help a lot.

He explained why he shot at the drone in the first 10 minutes of the video:

Dude received a 6 month ACOD (Adjourned in Contemplation of Dismissal) which means if he behaves for 6 months all charges ( 3 misdemeanors) will be dropped.
ADDED
Plus the $5k to Walmart

I hope more people see this video, unfortunately, for people like this guy, they probably never will until it’s too late.

I’m hoping to claim ownership of the air surrounding my property. I figure I should be able to retire on the fees collected. Oxygen ain’t cheap.

If I'd known it was an excuse, because there were aircraft in the space above me, I'd be popping off at planes every day. Especially those fighter jets that go overhead on the regular.
I know they're just peeping on me.

I remember a few years back the first time I saw a drone it was flying over my house. It was a neighbor kid. I promptly went to his driveway and told him " Do not fly over my house again" the neighbors were really unhappy about his drone. One day it crashed in a neighbors yard and they wouldn't let him retrieve it. Now I fly drones and I fly them all over the neighborhood. What a hypocrite I am. But I do inform the neighbors that it is me that is flying around and I promise I won't be taking pictures or videos on their property. I live on the top of a ridge and have a lot of space to fly over without bothering anybody. But I do understand what it's like to be on the other side.
