old version mini 4 pro

I bought a mini 4 pro yesterday. It was manufactured on 2023/11. The software is 01.00.0200. Can I use it without any updates? If I can, what advantages does it provide me? What disadvantages does it cause?

if you are a hobbyist and just would like to shoot simple photos or videos, may be almost no problem, except for missing some security enhancements .

But if you want to get use of the several functions of the drone, you may face plenty of compatibility issues.

Why, are you not willing to upgrade?

Yes that'll be totally fine
The bugs in that version are few and fairly minor / inconsequential.

However, DJI did add a few features since then which are very useful - most notably the ability to look through obstacle avoidance cameras in a secondary screen insert, and, very recently, a whole flight simulator !

Advantages are dependent on your local flight rules at time of manufacture. For example, my Mini4P had remote ID but it is not enabled initially in the UK - likewise we can override the 400 ft altitude limit in earlier firmwares, which may not be the case with later updates. And, depending on where and when it was bought no-fly zones may or not be enforced by the app, which again, may have changed since then.

Thanks for your answers. I reviewed the software descriptions on the DJI website. Generally, the "known issues" have been fixed. The new functions did not appeal to me and I think they are not necessary. I decided to use it without updating. If I have to one day, I will update it anyway.

@kursat26 Please bear in mind that, if you follow a strict interpretation of the regulation, a drone that is not updated, does is considered non-compliant. Hence, it is illegal to fly it as a C0-drone (again: when being strict).

The better question is why would you NOT want to update to the current version?

As @Frank071 pointed out, there are legal considerations, too. In the unlikely event that you cause an accident that triggers a lawsuit or court proceeding, do you think the opposing side wouldn't cite your negligence in not using the latest software and firmware released by the drone's manufacturer?

The limitation in our country's regulation is 500 grams. Our laws are also very different from the European Union laws. The rules are not based on the weight of the drone, but on hobbyist or commercial flights.
