Hi

Have finally ordered my Mini 3 Pro and and a DJi fly more kit with two extra batteries, props etc.

Can anyone recommend what other accessories I should get for the drone please?

I'm thinking maybe ND filters as my first accessories.

thanks

Nick

I picked up ND filters and a prop guard/holder not sure what you call it exactly but holds the props neatly making it easier to put in and take out of the bag without the props flopping around.

You being in the UK makes recommendations a bit more challenging not knowing if you are restricted to strictly sub 250g. If you're restricted about the only thing you can add is a ND filter because you have to remove a cover from the lens first. But if you can go above 250 grams there are a few things I would recomment. I assume this is your first drone.

1) "Leg" extensions- more like leg prostheses. . DJI, to stay under weight limit has amputated the legs of the Mini 3 so it pretty much sits on its belly. I bought two different types but like the one with the fold-out legs more than the one that looks like helo skids. See photo below.

1a) If you don't want to add anything to lift the Mini 3 off the ground definitely get a landing pad.

2) Strobe... or strobes. A Mini 3 (or 2 or 1) blends into the sky so quickly and easily that if you look away for a moment, even if within line of sight is difficult to regain visual sighting. I assume in the UK strobes are required for night flying- if it's allowed there at all.

3) Depending on how you will travel with your drone a sturdier case might be appropriate for your situation. A larger case might be required if you start accumulating accesories.

4) *** Micro SD cards, rated U3 or better***. Buy some that have the highest mbps rating you can find and afford. You will want to keep at least one spare in your case because you WILL one day forget to reinsert a previously used card back into the drone. I've done that and my spare saved me... though once or twice I've forgotten to check my drone on site, even though I had a card in the case. If you have the DJI RC controller that has a spot for the SD card get one more for that too.

5) Spare control sticks, especially with the DJI RC controller. The ones on the DJI RC are so thin that they are prone to dropping with my clumsy hands. One day I'm sure to drop one in the grass while installing them.

6) A GOOD screw driver for changing props. The one that DJI supplies is barely adequate; like something that you'd get from Fischer Price toy kit.

I think that's all I have for now. Good luck.

@Nickyb65 ,hi fellow flier, with according to my Air Data Ac 127 successful flights of my Mini 3 pro under my belt ,i have not purchased any accessories for the drone, apart from some spare RC sticks ,and a fourth Battery i can stow everything in the Fly more bag without any problems ,i prefer to remove the control sticks from the RC ,after i have finished flying for the day ,but it is possible to leave them attached ,although i would wonder if any stress was being applied from the side of the Bag ,as you will be aware to get the full benefit ,of being able to fly a sub 250g drone ,here in the UK ,then adding any extra weight ,is negating those benefits, also adding any thing to the drone during flight such as landing gear ,strobes or other things, is going to lessen the flight time ,even if only by a small amount ,and create extra drag as the drone moves through the air ,i am not anti accessories ,i have hard cases for my MM and MPP and landing legs ,strobes, ect ,but for me personally ,adding such things to the Mini 3 defeats its purpose

  • A couple of very good SD cards and a reader.
  • Strobe. ARC V, or ViFly.
  • A hard case.
  • ND filters, but not until you find that you need them.

The RCN1 controller's "ball" (that the sticks fit into) can be permanently skewed if held in an odd position for an extended period. I used to leave the sticks on my RCN1 though I cut out space so nothing *should have* been touching them. The left stick now leans very slightly toward the inside and attempts to straighten it have been slightly successful, but not 100% tying some elastic bands on and leaving it in the opposite direction overnight. This happened while in a hard case and IMO should not have occurred. I would never recommend leaving sticks on in a soft bag.

@vindibona1 nor would I thats why i remove them from my RC with the screen,i was merely stating that it is possible to leave them on,if thats what floats your boat

Not sure about removing control sticks. I just left them connected, space permitting. No problems after a year + with my Mini 2 sticks in a soft case. They are even more fiddly to attach with the Mini 3.

Forget ND filters (in fact ALL filters) until you're sure you need them.

A good belly-mount strobe is essential, day or night. A Firehouse Arc V is superb.

The DJI-provided carry case is too small. Once you add spare batteries and other stuff, it's too full. A good case provides lots of space, yet is easy to carry. Avoid zippers.

Yep. I think it's about the case and transport. My Mavic 2 controller in a custom cut foam insert nicely accomodates the sticks staying on with no issues. But when I go "compact" with just my Mavic 2's fly-more bag the sticks always get stored in their storage slots. I'm not taking any chances with my Mini 3 and the sticks always come off, though the thin-ness of them makes them "fumble prone".

Strobe on the belly of a Mini 3? Are you assuming hand recovery exclusively when landing?

If you're going to put an ARC V (or really any strobe) on the Mini 3 it will no longer be sub 250g. No big deal in the US. Why worry about belly landings or hand catching when for $11 you can get a set of light weight strap-on legs. [They come in gray or orange].
Landing legs

I forget how much they weigh, but they are very light weight. I also purchased a differently designed "helo skid" type, but don't like these as well because the contraption doesn't fold flat and is much more difficul to pack because of it. [see lower photo]

I ordered this for my Mini 3 and like it quite a bit. Strobe/landing gear combo - two birds, one stone.

I would also recommend replacing the gimble cover with the aftermarket one - it's easier to put on and off, and protects the forward sensors.
It's a cool accessory, I like the fact that it folds flat, but it weighs 50 grams as opposed to others that weigh 18-20 grams. I would think the value depends on how bright the built-in strobes are. Are they bright enough to help you keep track of your drone in the daylight? I know that an ARC V adds about 1000' to my viewing range, from 600' to 1600' during the day.

It does fold very flat - I have the FlyMore case and it fits in there along with 3 extra batteries. I haven't tried the strobe during the day. But at night it is very bright. I also like the fact that it doesn't show up in the camera view. The specs of the weigh say 21 grams, not 50 BTW. I haven't noticed any performance difference with them on.
