What is exaxtly the technical difference between connected and paired ?? I got this message to pair my new Mavic 3 with my new RC Pro controller without which I could only fly it maximum of 4 times.

Using the words that I have seen DJI use "Linking" relates to creating the control linkage between the drone and the controller.
What I think you are describing is the "binding" created between the drone and a certain DJI account and or between the drone and a certain controller. These "bindings" are insurance related.

I think this refers to the Guest feature where your not logged into the DJI account rather than pairing .

Only one remote can be bound to your drone at a time. You can pair it with other remotes without internet access for a maximum of 4 consecutive flights before you must use the original bound remote to prove you still own the drone. It's a form of two factor authentication to prevent theft. You can change the bound drone at any time, but you must have internet access to do so.
