Hi everyone,

I finally passed my Advanced Drone Pilot Flight Review here in Canada, and right after the test, I decided to record the exact maneuvers I was asked to perform during the review.

In this video, I’m sharing a complete demonstration of what the examiner requested - from takeoff and hovering to controlled flight patterns, and precision landing.
The setup and environment are identical to what I used during my actual review.

This should help anyone preparing for their Flight Review to get a clear idea of what to expect on the practical side.

I’ll also release Part 2 soon, covering the theory portion - including pre-flight briefing, METAR/TAF interpretation, airspace knowledge, checklists and emergency readiness.

Would love to hear your thoughts - especially from other Canadian pilots who have gone through the Advanced review recently.
What tasks were you asked to perform on yours?

Safe flying! ✈️

Thanks. I’ve been considering shooting for my advanced license but had trouble finding information about what a review would involve. This was great.

I was able to get a better idea of what was required (here in Canada anyway) by checking on the requirements for a flight review from the Flight Reviewers requirements. That made it much more clear than trying to decipher the requirements from various anecdotal reports.

Yes, this document is a must to read before the exam: Appendix A particularly

Part 2: Flight planning is out:

In this Part 2 tutorial, you’ll learn how to:•
Choose the exact gear you need for the Flight Review
• Access VFR charts and evaluate airspace, airport/heliports, obstacles and controlled airspace
• Find and read the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) and extract the page elements required for your test
• Build a proper Flight Plan that meets Transport Canada expectations
• Check and interpret NOTAMs
• Read METAR/TAF weather reports correctly
• Use Google Earth to map your location, determine takeoff zones, identify obstacles, and plan the positions of visual observers
• Understand what your examiner expects you to know before you even arrive on-site
