So I bought a Mavic, long story short. It went wrong and I'm being given a refund. I have two options... To get a another Mavic OR I get a Phantom 4 Pro

Has one got both or used both? I'd like to hear about experiences as I've been told they are quite different. I'm playing on using it for semi professional photography. The video quality is like night and day but what about the photos?

Thanks and merry christmas

Personally I think the camera is better on the Phantom 4. The Mavic has a more narrow point of view. The Mavic is much more portable. To me, those are the main differences.

I agree, I'm travelling next year and transportation is a factor. I was looking at getting a Manfrotto d1 bag for the P4P. But the Mavic can just fit in my normal bag pack. But its just that video quality is amazing!! Torn!

Mavic and P4 have same camera sensor.
P4 has wider field of view - I actually prefer the FOV of the Mavic.
Mavic is vastly more portable and in some intangible way more fun to fly. I have a P4P and still prefer to drag my MP out and fly it when just for fun.
Just my 2 centavos - worth less than 2 cents.

If you're referring to the P4P then the camera is waaaaay better than what comes with the Mavic.
But the Mavic is decent enough for a lot of things.

Phantom is faster and flies longer. Seems more stable in breezes.
Has front and rear collision detecting. Also has side collision detecting - sorta. Side detection only works in beginner or tripod mode.
Unfortunately sideways is exactly the way most folks get snagged in trees.

IMO your choice should be made on the portability factor. I own/owned both along with a Inspire 2 and Spark, but I ALWAYS find myself flying the Mavic. It's stable, reliable and quick to get in the air.

Have used both.

Mavic for me was a bit disappointing image quality wise but is so much fun and ultra portable.

P4P videos and images are night and day to mavic.

P4P obviously 20 megapixel but also supports 4K 60fps with 100Mb bit rate.

It depends what your after. Something you can throw in a backpack and go anywhere, a bit like a compact camera or something that you need to plan ahead, heavier and bulkier but takes much better photos and videos, a bit like the DSLR.

Have to disagree there , P4P is night and day compared to mavic where image quality is concerned.
There may be some confusion as initially it was stated P4 - not P4P. Afterwards it seems the OP was referring to the P4P.

Yeah I mean the Pro. I wrote Pro in the title but didn't in the post below. I either pick up my Pro today or I order a Mavic. I want both haha. You guys that have both, why? Is it so you choose between quality and portability?

I own the mavic but I also want the P4P.

I've flown friends P4P 4 or 5 times and spent some time with the footage.

Mavic is unbelievable, it really has set a precedent on portability. Just the camera can be disapointing, especially if your not shooting in good light, overcast etc. Can be very frustrating and it's never going to acheive anything like a P4P quality, you will drive yourself mad trying.

You just need to ask yourself what you want.

Portability at the expense of image quality, quieter, more discreet.

Or excellent image quality, less time messing with settings or post work but bulkier, louder and draws a little more attention in my experience.

Is it much louder than the little Mavics? I think I read its about 91db compared to the Mavics 84db (i think)

I'm not sure about specific sound levels etc, can only give my observations.

P4P definitely louder than mavic and has a different pitch.

Hovering my mavic at 400ft I can barely hear it but can with the P4P.

I gotta admit, I do like that spark. but its just the quality of the footage. I think I'm going to get the P4P and just sacrifice the portability. I may regret it but only time will tell. Theres an offer on atm with getting a P4P and a free battery, so saves me £180

I don't think you will regret it mate, if image quality is important it's a good decision. P4P is great fun to fly as well.

You will prob end up with both within a year anyway.
