Just wondering do the foundations for these windmills go down to bedrock? Are the construction sites returned to their original state once construction and erection is finished? I assume each windmill is left with its own access road.

not always bedrock, just down to allowable bearing level. can be rock, but mostly to good gravel/sand.
site roads stay for the life of the turbine for access and maintenance.
roads and crane pads are all landscaped in and depending on conditions sometimes seeded along the sides

Well, son-of-a-gun (see, Texas, gun, get it?) I didn't know Scotland had that much wind power but it makes sense, especially near the coasts. We've got tons of wind power here in Texas, all in western Texas. You can drive for miles and miles and see nothing but giant wind turbines all over the land. At night it's very creepy because it's so dark in west Texas at night that all you see are hundred of blinking red lights (on top of the wind turbines) to alert airplanes of their height. I have not yet had the opportunity to fly our drone around the ones here. Someday maybe. Thx
